The only requirements to become a police officer in the US is a high school diploma and at max 6 months of training. This has caused 1,004 deaths caused by the police in 2019 alone. Countries that require their police officers to be trained for 2-3 years have way fewer fatalities caused by cops. Most of the training that is given to the US police officers deal with the physical aspect of fighting crime, but we haven't been testing how they will handle problems mentally.
