Gregory Weldon Meeks, born in 1953, is an American lawyer and politician serving as a U.S. Representative from New York since 1998. A member of the Democratic Party, Meeks chaired the House Committee on Foreign Affairs from 2021 to 2023 and currently serves as its ranking member. His career began as an assistant district attorney from 1978 to 1983, followed by roles as a prosecutor and general counsel from 1984 to 1985. He then served as a judge from 1985 to 1992 before being elected to the New York State Assembly, where he served until 1998. Meeks has been a consistent presence in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing his district through multiple terms and actively participating in legislative processes.
