The People of Puerto Rico started this petition to Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and

There is a fundamental lack of democracy in Puerto Rico.

Over 3 million U.S. citizens are being denied full representation in our own government under an undemocratic and discriminatory territorial status that is not only immoral, but also stifles the possibility of any sustained social and economic development of the island.

But we're not having it anymore.

Last November, in a historic plebiscite, an absolute majority of the People of Puerto Rico voted to be immediately admitted into the Union as a state. Though other votes have been held in the past, there had never been such a clear and unquestionable mandate for Statehood.

The People of Puerto Rico have been citizens for over one hundred years, contributing to every aspect of American life in the process.

We have bled for our country. We have died for our country.

Puerto Rico is, and forever will be, an intrinsic part of the fabric of America, and last November we voted to make it official.

The ball is now in Congress's court.

We demand that Congress respect and act on the expressed will of the majority of the People of Puerto Rico. We demand an Admission Act to put Puerto Rico in a firm and irreversible path towards statehood.

We need your help.

As territorial subjects we have no voting representation in Congress, so it is essential to obtain the support of our fellow citizens in the states to amplify the demands of our voices and votes to the U.S. Congress.

Please sign this petition and help us get the word out by sharing it on your social media platforms. Thank you to everyone who is helping us finally put an end to the blatant political disenfranchisement we have been subjected to for over a century. Working together we can achieve full equality and democracy for Puerto Rico, and in the process make America a more perfect Union.
