Trucking regulations play a crucial role in ensuring road safety and fair working conditions for truck drivers. Recent trends in the industry, such as the rise of e-commerce and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, have highlighted the importance of addressing issues like driver fatigue, vehicle maintenance, and hours of service.
Petitions under this topic often call for stricter enforcement of regulations, improved working conditions for drivers, and enhanced safety measures on the roads. For example, a petition advocating for mandatory rest breaks and limits on driving hours has gained significant traction, citing alarming statistics on truck accidents caused by fatigue.
By exploring and supporting these petitions, you can contribute to a safer and more sustainable trucking industry. Join the movement to advocate for meaningful change and ensure that regulations protect both drivers and the public.
I been a driver for 4 years and the eld is a problem for everyone on the road because the brokers and shippers treat it as a alarm clock and a time limit to get to the shipper which in turn we have to rush and drive tired and can’t pull over to rest when needed or we will be late to a load and risk not getting loaded. The reasons you see trucks turnt over on the road and having major accidents is because of this ELD mandate and it must end if Saftey is really the priority.
Highway Safety & American Drivers First
I’m signing this petition because I believe in protecting both our highways and our workforce. It’s not about hate — it’s about safety, security, and accountability.
Every CDL holder on U.S. roads should be held to the same high standards — including background checks, licensing integrity, and English proficiency. Non-domiciled CDL programs are flooding the industry with under-trained drivers who don’t fully understand the language, culture, or traffic laws. That’s a recipe for disaster.
Our roads are dangerous enough. We owe it to the American public — and to every professional U.S. driver who plays by the rules — to demand better. Secure the highways. Protect our jobs. Put American drivers first.

A Driver’s Perspective
The roads were much safer when I hauled freight to the southern border where the freight was picked up from that drop off point by the foreign drivers that was limited to the border towns. As soon as the foreign drivers were allowed to span out further, the safety of all went to hell in a hand basket. The icing on the cake was ELD's. Beat the clock like a game show made highways even more dangerous. First, stop the invasion of the illegal drivers. The ELD should have been put in place with the same hour of service rules. The mere electronic recording was enough to prevent cheating. One the should have never changed. If you are not behind the wheel or physically unloaded your load, the clock should stop. The driver should be the one to determine when he needs to take a break not an electronic device. Change this abortion and watch accidents drop immediately. I start trucking in 1959, what I am telling you are facts. Please consider this life saving correction along with the just as important aforementioned.
I have been in the trucking industry for over 35 years. finally made it into the owner ranks in 2020. i used to haul off the spot market. i recreantly revoked my DOT and MC numbers for the simple fact i was no longer profitable as an owner/operator. with the greedy freight brokers and the foreign drivers under cutting the citizens with mortgages and property taxes i dropped my independence and leased me and my equipment to a motor carrier. FREIGHT BROKERS should be capped 15% max and 85% going to the motor carrier. i have been on the phone with many brokers and have asked them, "what is the % split each of us is getting to move this freight" i have been told, "none of your business" or even just hung up on. everything i need to keep this truck in compliance and maintain my equipment from break down has gone up in price since the planddemic even diesel and the freight rates have gone down. how is this sustainable for the small O/O? repair shops charge $220 p/hr 2 hr min. i cant afford DEF fluid and maintenance on that engine killer emission system. THREE things need to happen to fix this problem. 1. limit the amount a freight broker can steal from a carrier. 2. END the foreign driver visa program NOW and send home individuals that came here only to undercut the citizens of the USA. 3. allow small fleets (help the little man with an advantage) to delete the DEF system in there semi. i cant afford to buy a new tractor every 500K miles. why am i forced to maintain the emissions system that if failed would cost $25K to have a one box removed and a new one installed on a truck that is only worth $30K????? i would like to discuss the matter in greater detail. feel free to reach out to me. Thank you for your time.
While I am not a truck driver, my father is. Hearing his stories, seeing videos, and ever personal experiences riding with him have worried me about, not only his, but others safety. The untrained, unqualified drivers are making the roads much more dangerous, let alone the fact they are driving trucks that are well over 30 tons. I am worried about my safety too, in a few months I will be able to drive by myself, without supervision. The untrained drivers make the roads much more hazardous than they already are.
35 yrs and this industry has gone downhill fast. We need to fix this issue yesterday. Used to be a fun job, but now it is getting increasingly more stressful which is not good safety wise. We don't need stressed out drivers on our roads
I grew up riding in the passenger seat of my dad’s rig, and now I see how far the industry has fallen. My family’s full of professional drivers, and we take pride in doing things the right way. These days, our roads are flooded with carriers who don’t share our standards or our values. Corners are being cut, safety is slipping, and I worry every day about my wife and kids being out there. This matters — not just for drivers, but for every family on the road.
After 40 plus years in this industry and watching the downhill slide it is past time to get this done. Economic and physical lives are being lost to this issue.
Signed. Foreign drivers have driven down the pay, we are barely surviving out here while working our tails off. Nobody wants to pay worth a dime anymore, nobody wants to pay overtime, but they sure want you to work overtime for the hourly drivers, the roads are unsafe, they don't respect our laws, they don't respect our driver courtesy, American drivers are paying the price for their regular accidents and they are filling spots that American drivers used to fill, which is making it difficult to find good work. It needs to end...now.
