Truck safety is a critical issue that impacts road users globally. With the increasing number of trucks on the roads, accidents and fatalities involving these vehicles have become a pressing concern. Petitions under this topic call for stricter regulations on trucking companies, such as mandatory safety inspections, limits on hours of service for drivers, and improved training programs.
One petition, with thousands of signatures, advocates for mandatory installation of safety technology in trucks to prevent accidents caused by driver fatigue or distraction. Another petition highlights the need for more rigorous enforcement of existing safety laws to hold companies accountable for violations that jeopardize public safety.
By exploring and supporting these petitions, you can contribute to the collective effort to improve truck safety standards and make roads safer for everyone. Join the movement and help create a safer environment for all road users.
Just this past Wed, Feb 19 on my drive from Paradise Corners to Palm Desert, I counted 9 tractor trailers and one very long semi using this portion of Hwy 74 in a 30 minute period. Pot holes are reappearing along this dangerous stretch of road. The trip to the desert from the mountains has always been an adventure, but now it is a harrowing experience.
I drive this road everyday, with my two babies, in a Prius. At least once a week we pass an incoming semi truck on a curve who can't stay in their lane. Even if the front of the truck is in the correct lane, the rear tires are crossed over the double yellow line. My car and my kids have no chance against a semi truck. It's not fair that we drive safely and are faced with this extreme risk everyday. Highway 74 is the only way to get to and from our home
I drive this road twice a week for my work with the school district - over the last 5 years I have had numerous close calls with semi trucks crossing the center line - there should be a 3-4 axel limit to limit the traffic to local deliveries and not over the mountain transport.
I live on Hwy 74 & I hear the big trucks speeding by as they go up the hill all day & even at night( they are avoiding the scales on Interstate 10 in Cabazon. There is another big problem that no one is addressing. Motorcycle groups are going up & down the Highway at extremely high speeds. They "rev" their engines & surround cars & intimidate any one who happens to be driving north or south. This happens almost every night & Sat. & Sun. mornings. I have counted as many as 10 to 12 motorcycles going as fast as 80 to100 miles an hour! Their goal is to go up to the view point & then race back down the hill. I have sound proof windows but when they all ride together in a group the noise is defening. This happens between 8:00 and 10:00pm, usually on Tuesdays & Thursdays. Maybe we could have a CHP patrol car cruising Hwy. 74 to help eliminate this problem?
The trucks are so dangerous going around this winding cures of the mountain. Often they have difficulty staying in their lands around corners. I drive 74 often to SD & have been startled by some of these big trucks.
