The reason I care about this issue that we've all come together to stop, Is because of my personal issue with it! Hi, MY name is Francisco Miguel and my reasoning to care about this issue is because of how it truly impacts my fellow peers and students day to day school lives at Fulton High School, I advocate for the freedom of choice when using what ever color a student pleases to wear, I do not however, want NO Dress code at all. That would be chaotic to have zero sense of what people should wear, so I humbly want to help my fellow Fulton students with the useless color dress code, thank you so much for your time. - By Francisco M Miguel.
As a student at Fulton High School, I personally feel as if some of the staff at the school care more about students being in dress code rather than them being academically successful. A lot of the students at the school tend to dislike the dress code so much that they don’t want to show up which causes a drastic drop in their grades. Ending dress code would be better for everyone.
this school wants to talk about how our education is important yet are suspended people and taking away class time because of the color you’re wearing isn’t your academy color? it’s extra work and stress for everyone and maybe people would actually come to school if they didn’t have to wear something that doesn't make them feel like they aren’t them #besoforreal
My name is Emma isabell and im a student at fulton highschool. when I wear white, it makes me anxious which causes me to be nauseous. And I have emetophobia, which causes me to be in constant fear all day. The dress code limits my self expression which makes me who I am. It also makes me self conscious, I feel chubby and fat in white. Which makes me hate my body. When I'm in my favorite colors that make me happy I feel comfortable in my own skin, making me more comfortable to talk to people and not feel anxious all day. Please remove this dress code so I can feel happy and like myself.
In Fulton High School they rather a kid spend 2 days is ATS than 2 days in their regular block because they weren’t wearing the right color! Not to mention they don’t dress code everyone, they most definitely pick and choose based on body types, people, etc. Tell me, what does me wearing a white shirt have to do with what I’m learning?
As a student that has attended Fulton for a majority of my Highschool career, leaving this school was when I was was finally able to find myself through the clothing I wore. When I left, it was then when I became more comfortable with my body because I was able to wear what I wanted to try out what made me comfortable in social situations such as school. Fulton’s dress code does more harm than good.
As a former student of Fulton High School the dress code was a problem for everyone it wouldn't let people express who they are or who they are growing to be. And sometimes the administration would put a student into one academy but put them in the color of a different one. The colors are illogical to the school and what they stand for. The student should decide what they wear to the school not the other way around!
To not be able to learn properly and miss valuable class time because you have been suspended or have been sent to ATS simply because the color of your shirt, jacket or hoodie is not a specific color is very appalling to me and others. We as students do have a responsibility to come to school to learn but when you have to worry about a borderline oppressive dress code it really doesn’t help nor does it help set a positive learning environment.
Our act against the dress code is more seen as “not wanting to follow rules” but its way more than that!! Fulton’s community and the area its in is a majority of low income backgrounds. Not saying this applies to everyone at fulton but it does for a vast majority including myself. For some it might be harder to find the right color or the right shade of the color to be in dress-code. Or might not have the available recourses to keep track of said clothes. I know that the school supplies academy dress code clothing but honestly to some this might feel humiliating or uncomfortable. Students feel subjected by the fact that they’re receiving harsh punishments because of the new regulations set in place. I know everything takes time but this needs to be acted on ASAP. It wouldn’t be fair to this years group of seniors if the academy colors were removed a year later as they have been going through this for 4 whole years. This type of colored dresscode has been set in place for years, I know this because my mother once attended fulton and it didnt start with specific colored dresscode untill after she graduated in 1999. My brother as well also attended fulton and had to comply with the same thing with button ups and khakis as well as the colors from 2016-2019. Its my belief that if we dont act now to get this changed it never will!! So much has done by other students in the past to bring awareness to serious situations and they have been overlooked. But we are the new voices of our generation and we must use that!!
Dress code does not affect a students ability to understand the lessons being given. The staff at Fulton High School need to be more focused on making a happier learning environment rather than dictating what the students wear, as long as it’s appropriate there is no issue. Judge me by my ability to learn not the color I wear.
