Although anyone is allowed to wear a skirt in my school, lots don’t. This means that in weathers such as 29degrees (which it reached last week) is incredibly hot in trousers. The dark colour of them attracts heat which makes people feel uncomfortable whilst learning and in the playground. Furthermore, if students are uncomfortable and hot they can not learn, focus or enjoy themselves. This is issue is a case for me and so many others and it needs to be stopped.
When I was in Y7(now in Y8) me and friends noticed the heat in the uniform and decided to ask if we can have shorts. They explained their side but said we should find others who agree with us. We did. We made a from and got 100 kids in our year to sign it. When we gave it to them they said we couldn’t get shorts. I’m glad to see this going one step further. Me and my friends will keep trying to find new people to sign it and everyone can work together to stop this problem.
Surely children will benefit less from their education if they are nearly passing out from the heat? It makes no sense that they should have to wear a blazer or tights in this heat. I sent my children (ages 4 and 5) to school in shorts and polo shirts today, why can older children not wear the same? I hope any headteacher who would enforce such a rule would also be wearing the same amount of layers all day.
I'm disappointed that 22 years after I left a school where this head teacher was then a deputy head, she is still behaving in the same manner towards students. I was refused entry to my GCSE Maths exam by Mrs Johnson-Walker, due to her incorrectly claiming I was not complying with uniform policy.
The government strongly recommend that governing bodies should
•engage with parents and pupils when designing their uniform policy or when making any significant changes – these views should be considered in determining the final policy
•consider how comfortable the proposed uniform will be for pupils
•take a sensible approach to allow for exceptions to be made during extreme weather – for example, allowing pupils to wear shorts in very hot weather or allowing trousers to be worn instead of skirts in very cold weather
She has ignored these recommendations. Mrs Johnson-Walker should be focused on resolving the other, more important school issues she mentions in her letter to parents, rather than wasting time enforcing arbitrary uniform policies.
Research shows that children are more motivated, engaged and have better learning outcomes when they study in a positive learning environment - Comfort is a key part of this.
My daughter was body shamed by a pupil and when taken out of class, said pupil accused my daughter of racism. She was suspended within an hour without a proper investigation. The evidence they had was friends of the pupil saying it was true, even though her friends said it wasnt. When confronted apparently silent cctv footage of my daughter saying something to the pupil was enough evidence, and I quote "it was clear she said something to him, we determined it was racist" this isn't the only thing this disgrace of a school has done to mistreat my daughter. Another is verbal abuse from a teacher that was responded with "the teacher will not be working here after the summer" something needs to change in this school, as any complaints seem to be only possible in house and is swept under the rug or covered up.
