We, the undersigned, respectfully request that The Gilberd School reviews and updates its uniform policy to allow students the option of wearing smart, tailored shorts during the summer term.

As temperatures increase during the warmer months, the current uniform can become uncomfortable and impractical. Allowing students the option to wear shorts would support their wellbeing, comfort, and ability to concentrate—without compromising the school’s high standards of appearance and behaviour.

We would also like to note that Trinity School, The Gilberd’s sister school within the Alpha Trust, already allows students to wear shorts in the summer. This demonstrates that such a policy is both feasible and effective in maintaining a professional school image while addressing student needs.

We believe this reasonable and inclusive change would reflect a modern, fair, and student-focused approach to uniform policy.

We respectfully urge the school’s leadership and governors to consider this request and look forward to a positive outcome.
