The Issue

Cramlington High School have recently sent out an email explaining the importance of walking to school to promote a healthy lifestyle yet the footwear written into the uniform policy is dated and not comfortable which discourages students to walk.

Schools ought to foster an environment that promotes both academic learning and physical well-being. Studies have shown that children who walk to school are generally healthier and more focused in their classes. However, forcing students into rigid dress codes that require formal shoes can be a deterrent to walking or cycling to school, limiting their activity levels and affecting their wellbeing.

Embracing trainers in school dress codes not only aids student comfort but also harmonises with public health recommendations encouraging youth to engage in more physical activity daily.

Furthermore, adopting a more flexible dress code can enhance inclusivity among students who may have medical reasons requiring them to wear trainers. Schools could implement reasonable guidelines for trainers to ensure they remain appropriate and in line with the rest of the school uniform.

Further more it is a little hypocritical that the teaching staff are allowed to wear trainers but the school students are not? Does not seem fair.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for a change that promotes the physical health and well-being of our children and reduces unnecessary stress over footwear. Let's work to create a school environment that recognises the importance of comfort and health, and ultimately aids in our children's long-term success and happiness.
