It should stay because since it’s a small school it helps us students be able to concentrate more on our study’s and if we don’t get to keep it we will lose our majors that we chose and we would have to choose a different one of three only instead of multiple
As an 8th grade student, I'm working my hardest to get into Thelma R. Salinas STEM ECHS. I have a sister who is a year older than me, and she is setting the example for me to get into the best High School. To be honest, it seems very unfair to me that now they want to close the best school just because the board members don't know how to take care of money. If that is the case, they better close La Joya High School because those students don't even put effort into their studies. Many of these students don't even end up graduating because they get into drugs, fights, or end up becoming parents at a young age. Please don't close Thelma because it is the best school and I'm really looking forward to entering this school.
I go to the school downstairs and as a junior I don’t think it’s fair for me to leave what I had build being a relationship with my teachers or what I went to that school for being my endorsement I spend 3 years working hard and for yall just to take that away from me ?
As the current Junior Class president, this decision directly impacts my fellow class mates and all of the hard work they have put into this school. It’s a shame the district is trying to silence us and now allow us to finish where we were accepted to. We should get the opportunity to finish what we started at our school.
As a former student, this school is arguably the best in La Joya. Many great kids have come out of here and gone on to excellent universities, and it’s a shame to get rid of a school that has proven time and time again that it excels at producing some of the best students in the country.
As a former freshman at Thelma R Salina I don’t want this to happen I know that this school will be hard but I want to push myself. My three brothers graduated from Thelma R Salina and I want to graduate to so I don’t want Thelma R Salina to shut down because our school has the best teachers in all the ljisd high schools thank you don’t shut down Thelma.
As a freshmen student at Thelma R Salinas STEM ECHS, it seems unfair to me that they want to close this school. Why instead of closing this school, don't you close La Joya High School? With all due respect, those students end up not finishing school and dropping out because of bad decisions they make. Why do they invest more money in them and not in us? However, we at Thelma work hard to get a bright future. We are more likely to finish school and get into better universities. To La Joya Board members; Please consider very carefully what you are doing, do not take away what you promised us, neither from us, nor from the future Thelma students who want to enter this school. 🙏
My daughters were both bullied there... her bullies family came on campus and tried to start a physical fight with me... I was escorted off grounds & my daughter transferred schools. My other daughter was tripped by a boy broke her knee no investigation no follow up nothing done to the boy that did it. She was also about to get suspended for defending herself against her bully which was another boy.
My 1st visit on the school grounds was to support my Kindergarten grandson. He was struggling with being bullied and being afraid. He said he would go cry in the bathroom, his bullies even locked-blocked the door so he could not leave. He started running away from the chaos that surrounded him. After I arrived that morning and saw him, his face had a feral and scared expression. After holding his hand for about 5min, he leaned against me, relaxing as he realized he was safe. Why staff tried so hard to make him, label him, as the problem, I will never understand.
Unless it's easier to traumatize the child who is bullied, than address the real issue of the kids who bully. This issue is multi-pronged. The teacher had no control over the class, the kids were yelling, throwing, kicking and rarely doing school work...
It is unbelievable that a district is looking to block the ability of a school to access funds that are outside of the district after only a few months of the school opening.
They seem to ignore the early success of the school and students. My son a 6th grader has had an amazing transition. He is now an A and B student after making the transition to this school. Having the opportunity to work with new technology computers is just the beginning. Great teachers and staff that care about the student is key to the success.
Taking this opportunity from the community will damage the future of this city
