RHS Wisley is a national treasure. It saddens me that 350,000 people have been unable to visit due to the catastrophic impact of the roadworks that have included deforestation, natural habitat loss, noise and traffic pollution with unmanaged, extremely dangerous queues resulting in danger to life and damage to our planet, quite the opposite of what RHS Wisley does. It’s scientifically proven that being in nature improves mental health and wellbeing. With so many unable to visit it’s surely had an impact on our NHS too. RHS Wisley shouldn’t have to claim compensation for the goodness they do for our nation and planet, this should have been better planned by individuals with the ability for consideration and thinking ahead. It clearly was not. It is right to compensate Wisley

This has been devastating for Wisley. Our family has not been able to visit as often as in previous years because of the impact of the roadworks. It will have been the same for many others. Wisley does such essential work and has been tremendously impacted. They should be compensated.
Having visited the gardens since the early 80's I am dismayed that the Government found it necessary to install such a huge junction. It has taken a large chunk of the nearby forest and created an eyesore where once was beauty. The disruption to traffic is horrendous making visiting Wisley an ordeal. The noise impact and pollution to the garden is also something that has not been considered. I think the very least that should be done is to compensate the RHS who are trying hard to encourage a greener better future for everyone by supporting horticultural education be it in their laboratories or by showcasing growing techniques.
The effect of the roadworks (I’ve experienced this!) make a visit to Wisley a real problem - it will have put off countless people who would otherwise have chosen to go. The charity relies on visitors and natural justice demands that it be compensated.
The RHS is a nationally important charity and especially vital in these days of climate change. Personally I have gained so much in knowledge and pleasure over many years as a member and feel frustrated that the RHS is being subjected to such a huge loss due to road works!
As a young person in the UK. Conservation of the environment is the most important thing. I strive to not only support but do my bit to consvere and save this earth so we can all enjoy and share is beauty .
We will not stand for the government ruining this with thier lack of care and understanding.

The road works have decimated the area around Wisley, with much of the woodland and associate habitats destroyed. There should have been greater concern about the impact these works would have at the decision stage. Now the damage can be assessed the gardens should be adequately compensated. I have been a regular visitor to the gardens for many years, however because of the difficult access and lengthy delays sitting in traffic I haven't visited the garden for nearly a year. It is tragic
I signed this petition as these roadworks have had a major impact on the RHS Wisley and their income and are a real shame and absolutely devastating for them. They do such a great job in terms of maintaining and developing gardens, training, plant diversification and retention as well as keeping their gardens and their partners gardens open for the public. Even if you haven’t got a local garden, it is great when travelling through the UK to visit the ones that are open.
Working at the RHS I have seen an alarming drop in the footfall through the garden visitors and spending in retail. Speaking to customers on the shop floor, many have stopped their membership due to the road works, may have confirmed they have spent hours in traffic jams waiting to visit. The road works have created a huge scar on the landscape, and continue to make visiting the gardens very difficult. Even getting to work on time for employees has been very difficult and frustrating.
