This park is severely outdated (built in 2002) and reflects the skatepark designs when street skateboarding was first emerging i.e. very basic and standard. It has its merits, such as good flow (ability to utilise much of the park in one run), good size and history. It however does not currently stand as a skateboarding 'HUB' of the capital city of Tasmania. Many of the main skateparks in capital cities/cities on the mainland are olympic standard and very modernised, reflecting the evolution of how later generation skateboarders have enhanced technicality and adaptability in their arsenal - something that 'main' skateparks like EC do not represent. EC does not even have a good size progression of obstacles to build upon to gain confidence, it has a very small box (about 15cm high) and quite a small/short flat bar (about 35-40cm high; these obstacles are supposed to be where you build your foundations and when they aren't adequate in size and quality, the confidence hurdle is much larger to reach the next level. The park is not challenging enough in parts, it's not dynamic enough, it's too simplistic and the concrete is rough/falling apart! It needs lights, much of it needs demolishing/reworking and covered areas for wet days. There is a lot of space to even extend it as well so there should not be any issues there. If the council really cares about health and wellbeing of the community, investing time and money into this would be a really good start! It's about time Tasmania is properly put on the map for skateboarding!

Skateboarders have been begging for an upgrade to EC for years and years and we’d really love to see some more love put into this community! I urge you to look at what “Convic skate parks” is doing at the moment with their approach to design and use of space and heritage. Two examples that stick out to me are: Prahran skate park in Melbourne, which is just a beautiful and versatile rework of a classic park that caters to all kinds of skaters. And Glebe skatepark in Sydney which uses replicas of pre-existing street spots to create and really cool plaza environment. This is something that skaters and bmx riders alike really get inspired by and want to return to!! And of course an indoor space to retreat to when the weather gets grim would benefit everyone and create more options for us in those cold and rainy months. Let’s make it happen!!!

Proper infrastructure has been missing for a long time, especially for the development of BMX park riding. Big quarter pipes, bowls, spines and box jumps would enable a huge level of progression to occur. While 2-3ft ramps are great to get people into the sport, 6ft+ features are needed to allow real progression for the Tasmanian riding community.

Ec definitely needs an upgrade of some sort, skaters of hobart deserve more of a hub to skate. This park is falling to bits and even locals are fixing the cracks with there own resources and doing a shocking job. There is so much space at the north hobart cultural park for an expansion of the skatepark. And also we have no lights for winter afternoons, like come on it gets dark at 5 pm... and zero cover for the rain days. Something needs to be done
Bernie supported: Petition to Upgrade the North Hobart EC Skatepark
I was in high school when the North Hobart and Taroona skateparks were built. North Hobart drew people in huge numbers, skate demos from local and international brands and the wider community. A new, revised and enlarged park to bring that community back in line with the current resurgence of skateboarding, along with BMX, rollerblading/skating and scooters would be a huge benefit for the community in such a central space.

This is exactly what Noosa needs! A place where young people (and old) can go to be active with friends and community. As a mother of teens I love this idea.

Rainbow SLSC should be heritage listed as it is one of the oldest on the coast. Let’s maintain the charm and iconic building that’s sat on our coastline for so many years. I genuinely think this proposal to ‘upgrade’ the club and remove parking along with changing everything into a concrete mess for the rich is a money grab for the developers. I absolutely agree with upgrading the path but think we should keep the building and give it an internal revamp while maintaining the facade. This money would be better channeled in helping the local homeless population.

I've been a surfer since I was 9 years old and I am approaching 70 and still surf. In the 70s I lived in Musgrave St across the road from the second groyne. There was always a problem with the parking at Snapper Rocks. It would be madness to reduce the existing parking space for a commercial enterprise. LEAVE IT ALONE OR IMPROVE THE PARKING AREA.

Rainbow Bay SLSC is one of the few remaining surf clubs which evoke so many fond memories of family and community. This should be cherished not destroyed. This is an appalling decision by GCCC and must be stopped

This place holds so many amazing memories. Why would you get rid of such a beautiful place, that’ll probably just be replaced by another heartless building
