Give Local Kids More Time to Play

Support a Synthetic Sports Field at Christison Park, Vaucluse (the park near The Grumpy Baker).  

Our local kids need more reliable places to play sport.

Woollahra Council is preparing the new South Head Trio Masterplan, covering Christison Park, Lighthouse Reserve and Signal Hill Reserve.

This is a rare opportunity to improve one of our community’s most important sporting spaces for the next generation.

We are asking Woollahra Council to include and properly assess a high-quality synthetic multi-purpose sports field at Christison Park as part of the draft Masterplan.

Christison Park is heavily used by local children, schools, sporting clubs and families. Natural grass fields are an important part of the park, but their availability can be affected by heavy use, wet weather and the need for recovery and maintenance.

A modern synthetic field could provide a reliable, durable, year-round playing surface for junior football, rugby league, rugby union, AFL, hockey, oztag, touch football and other community sports, while allowing the majority of Christison Park to remain natural grass and public open space.

We are asking Council to:

⚽ Put a synthetic field option into the South Head Trio Masterplan

👧👦 Prioritise local junior and community sport

🌧️ Provide a reliable playing surface that can withstand intensive use and wet weather

🌳 Preserve substantial natural grass, landscaping and public open space

🏡 Carefully address lighting, noise, traffic, environmental impacts and neighbouring residents

🤝 Consult properly with residents, families, schools, sporting clubs and all other park users

We are not asking for Christison Park to become a large sporting complex.

We are asking Council to investigate whether one appropriately located synthetic field could allow more local children to train and play sport while protecting the character and broader community use of this wonderful park.

The South Head Trio Masterplan will shape Christison Park for many years.

Now is the time to make sure this option is properly considered.
