BRING A SMOOTH-SURFACE PUMP TRACK TO BELLINGEN!
Wouldn't it be amazing to have a dedicated, smooth-surface pump track right here in Bellingen?
I'm starting this petition to find out how many people in our community would love to see this happen.
This isn't just about building another skatepark. It's about creating a place where people can ride, exercise, learn, socialise and enjoy the outdoors, regardless of age or experience.
WHAT MAKES THIS TRACK DIFFERENT?
I'm envisioning a purpose-built smooth-asphalt pump track with flowing curves, rollers and banked corners, bringing the feeling of ocean waves to the grass.
Unlike dirt-based or BMX-focused tracks like we have in Toormina, this one would prioritise a smooth surface suitable for skateboards, longboards, scooters and inline skates. A place where beginners can build confidence and experienced riders can challenge themselves.
WHY BELLINGEN?
A missing piece of the region... As far as I can tell from Google, Kempsey and Woolgoolga might be the closest smooth-asphalt pump track options to us. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
A few years ago, I travelled further north up the coast, visiting various pump tracks along the way. The asphalt tracks we found attracted people and families of all ages. They had a different atmosphere to a traditional skatepark; active, social and welcoming.
I'd love to see Bellingen explore the opportunity to offer something our region may be missing.
MORE THAN JUST A PLACE TO RIDE
A pump track could give young people more to do, encourage physical activity and provide a welcoming space for different ages and abilities. Riding can improve fitness, balance and coordination while making exercise fun.
Imagine green space, picnic tables and seating nearby — somewhere friends meet, families relax and people enjoy the atmosphere, even when they're not riding.
📍 COULD AN EXISTING SPACE BE TRANSFORMED?
One potential location I think is worth investigating is the old skatepark near Bellingen's Saturday markets.
It sits unusued and forgotten.
Could this space, or the surrounding area, be transformed into something exciting for the community?
A pump track here could create a vibrant addition to Market days.
This is only a suggestion. I'd love to see Bellingen Shire Council investigate its suitability alongside other potential sites if people are interested.
