There should be harsher penalties and more defined rules concerning animal abuse. The beating of the dog in Albemarle county was horrendous. Also I pass hound dogs on Dudley mountain road in small outdoor pens in single digit weather AND in 90+ degree weather. Cruel dangerous conditions for these dogs. Nothing is done about it.

Humans who make a choice to own an animal have a responsibility to provide at minimum, basic needs and any and all medical attention required. Owning an animal is a choice and any abuse, neglect or suffering is also a deliberate choice. With many options available for pet owners who may be struggling including but not limited to: Low cost veterinary services, assistance in obtaining necessary food, and options to surrender the animal to local shelters, any mistreatment is willful and intentional. Our community will not tolerate willful neglect and abuse of animals in our area. The maximum penalties are indicated for those who seek financial gain at the expense and intentional suffering of other living beings. Owning an animal is a privilege that should be beneficial to both pet and human. It is not a right and does not come without responsibility and consequences. Our community is placing trust in our legal system to uphold the laws and regulations and standards that are set to protect the voiceless.

Animals have lives like humans, they just have biological jobs they provide on the planet. They are not food or entertainment or slaves. They understand family and they understand evil. Koreas treatment to animals is evil and should be stopped and ended permanently.

Shelters are overflowing and euthanizing for space, rescues are overflowing and many are unable to help the shelters because they can't find people to take the animals they already have. There is no reason for anyone to support a puppy mill or a pet store that has puppies. You can find any breed of any age at a shelter or rescue. Stop spending $1000+ on an animal that came from horrible living conditions! The people breeding them for profit don't care about the quality of life for the animals, just the quality of life for themselves! You're putting money into the pockets of horrific individuals while an animal is dying for the lack of space! PLEASE STOP THE CYCLE AND SAVE A LIFE!

I volunteer at a shelter in the county. Animals are being forced to live in tiny kennels with very little room as the overpopulation and abandonment of animals in the community rise. Perfectly happy, healthy dogs in the shelter are given final hold dates and risk euthanasia to make room for new intakes. This has to STOP.

Adopted 2 rescues. Two of the best decisions that I have ever made. Adopt don't buy. Everyone (including animals) deserves a break and a second chance.

ADOPT DON’T SHOP!!! I adopted my boy Tyson from a rescue group here in Iowa. Was in terrible shape when he left his previous owner. Neglected. He’s now 15 yrs old and loved and cared for to pieces.

As a person who fosters orphaned, unwanted, and "unplanned" puppies for a local rescue group--the thought of yet another "boutique puppy store" makes me sick. Our state can't keep up with the number of dogs in shelters and rescues. Every day, PUPPIES are on the lists for euthanasia because there just isn't any space. If you choose to purchase a dog from a breeder, that is absolutely your choice...but no GOOD breeder would ever allow their puppies to be sold in a store. These are puppies from puppy mills. Either do your research and purchase from a reputable and ethical breeder or get your new pet through a rescue. Stop supporting businesses like this!

Buying thousand dollar boutique puppies makes no sense when there are thousands of loving dogs in need of homes. Please adopt and don’t shop for your next companion animal

We have far too many homeless dogs in our shelters and communities--we do NOT need more. When people adopt from a public shelter or rescue, they are saving 2 lives. When they buy from a pet shop they are simply adding to the bigger problem. Pet shops need to be illegal.
