My mom always told me to never go here after she bought a sick puppy YEARS ago. Seems like it’s still happening. Went in there to ask if a bird we found was theirs and the place smelled HORRID. Animals shouldn’t die because of lack of interest or care from staff/owner. They sell Puppy mill puppies and they support the mills! Stop shopping here
This needs to STOP. No innocent, healthy loving dog should EVER be put to sleep for no reason. Over crowded shelters is NOT a reason. Do we put the homeless population to sleep because of crowded shelters? No. So why are we putting innocent dogs and cats to sleep for this reason? Kill shelters need to be banned. Puppy mills need to be banned. Over breeding needs to be banned. Back yard breeding needs to be banned. This needs to stop! Whoever these monsters are doing the euthanizing of healthy, loving dogs that just want a forever home need to be held accountable and imprisoned. I've seen too many innocent faces of happy dogs thinking they are leaving these shelters to go to their forever home, with their happy and wagging tails, only to be brought back to be euthanized. It's an image you can never forget. We need to put an end to animal cruelty.
I worked at Animal control officer reserve, if this is dogs first offense, especially after being adopted from same shelter the dog could have unlined trauma the new owners Very Likely never knew about, wee classify PDD dogs ( Potentially Dangerous Dogs) # 1-5, 5 being worst ,numeral offenses.ay.be a level 2 classification and on leash at all times ,a muzzle out in public , no children can walk dog. So Annie can return home . We don't rescue n save dogs to destroy them after all the money is collected. SEND ANNIE HOME WITH STIPULATIONS. It sounds like it was a minimal nip . Please review on case by case basis
Dogs have evolved along side us for many thousands of years and truly are wonderful companions-how can we allow them to be neglected in the worst way possible?!? Please make it a law that pets are not left outside in extreme temperatures! It’s such a small step to protect our furry friends.
Residents of Greene County need a shelter located in their own county. When I moved to this area, there was a shelter located in Athens, NY. That's where I got my first cat. I've learned from local animal rescuers that the Columbia Greene Humane Society has limited the number of kittens, etc that they can take on several occasions. Also, the drive is at least 30 minutes for most Greene County residents.
Healthy animals are NEVER euthanized, they are killed.Euthanization is for ending suffering that will never get better but only worse, killing is just killing. It is not their fault they are homeless and they are not disposable objects but are living and feeling beings. It is imperative to have low cost spay/neuter clinics with a lot of outreach, education, stronger laws, and TNR for cats. Also, canine racism should never be considered acceptable, thus the killing of so many allegedly "dangerous" dogs.
