I live in Yorktown. But I love buckroe. It's ridiculous the people that live there can't take their dogs out on boardwalk! Their houses are RIGHT THERE. My sister lives on buckroe beach. She says it's a issue to. And what kind of town doesn't care about a disabled women? And what about people like my sister? She has to push a baby carriage and walk her dog on that narrow sidewalk. It's extremely dangerous. Come on. Give them the boardwalk. At least before 10 am! Or a hour before sunset. Give them something. It's their homes. Easy to sit on your high horse if it's not you. I can't imagine that poor girl being mostly BLIND and going down that sidewalk. Even my sister says it's hard. And people yell at you for standing in their driveways.
I agree with young lady 100%. I met her and her wonderful, well trained, dogs today. She is a very kind, caring soul. If she were my daughter I would not want her risking her life to take her dogs out on that tiny, dangerous sidewalk. But the way she talks about those dogs she probably would. I have walked on that very sidewalk with my dog. In may-sept it is crowded. And people on bikes, mothers with strollers, other people with dogs. And you do need to get off into HIGHWAY. For anyone that's dangerous, for her it could be deadly.
I met Marissa today. Wonderful young lady. That sidewalk is dangerous. I have ridden my bike on it, as well as walked my dogs. It's true if someone is coming you need to get off into road. Which even for me as someone who is fully sighted it's scary. So I can't imagine having a severe vision impairment and trying to live your life and having to deal with that because where you live won't allow you on your own boardwalk! Please allow dogs on boardwalk year round. Virginia Beach does 6-10 am, and 6 pm-close. So Buckroe can do that. VA beach is much bigger and they allow it. And VA beach doesn't have the small and dangerous sidewalk issue. Come on you guys. Do better for those in your community. Or do you not care? Because we do.
As somone who is disabled (mostly blind) no boardwalk access through may 15- Sept 15 isn't right. It doesn't just affect me. It effects dogs, people with disabilities, (blind or low vision, wheelchair users) mothers with strollers, and even bikes because the side walk is so old and dangerous. Please change this. Allow us dog owners on boardwalk year round
