Funding these advanced courses gives opportunity to ordinary Florida kids. It better prepares them for college and allows them to reduce the money required for college (because they get college credits). Don't take these opportunities away.
A good education & a fair shot should be available to everyone regardless of means and status. Otherwise this country is no meritocracy, it's just a neofeudal collection of dynasties.
This is getting out of hand, so many students rely on these funds to pursue their careers. Why stop this year and create an unfair balance? In the end, we will be your leaders tomorrow, so don’t ruin our education.
Getting rid of these classes is pointless. I want to go into medical school and get a music degree, and Lord knows how expensive that'll be. Even if it's just four years, the Bright Futures scholarship will help take some money off, and will allow me to have a better chance getting into the college of my dreams. I always wanted to work with animals, but due to many reasons, I'm unable to do that- expenses holding me back from medical school would destroy yet another one of my future plans. Getting rid of children's education and destroying opportunities for them is disastrous, and I beg for anyone in support of this terrible law to reconsider and sign this petition, even if it doesn't affect you.
As an IB student taking multiple AP classes this kind of funding makes school so much easier and manageable for me and many friends who don’t have as much as I do. Defunding these would only harm Florida students when we’re already facing big problems with our education!
Florida! Stop ruining everything that’s right with this state. The IB program is the ONLY reason I still have a child in public school. The teachers are amazing and my child is challenged. Don’t you want these kids to excel in education and in life? This is NOT the place to cut spending!
I am a student attending a Florida public school, not only do I take both AICE Cambridge and AP classes, but I am also planning on going into dual enrollment classes in order to be academically challenged in my classes. I want the chance to go to college out of state, but with this bill I won't look competitive or academically challenged. It will also be difficult to be accepted in an instate college when the highest class I have taken is honors. I am currently a freshmen, I can not spend the next 3 years of my high school career taking classes that I am over qualified to take. Passing this bill wouldn't just be a discoutesy to me, but also all of the students who rely on these classes to set them apart for college. Florida, if this bill is passed, I can guarantee your school admission rates will see an all time low, with people moving their families out of this country in seek of a state that wants to give their younger generations a better chance at life instead of cutting them off from a higher education.
Dear Ron,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to House Bill 5101 and Senate Bill 2510, which propose a 50% funding cut to Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), Dual Enrollment, AICE, and Career & Technical Education programs across Florida.
As a parent, I have seen firsthand the positive impact that these programs have on students at Stanton. The funding for these programs is essential to providing our students with rigorous academic experiences, college readiness, and workforce development opportunities. A 50% funding cut would significantly harm our students' ability to access these opportunities and would undermine the quality of education at Stanton.
My child is currently enrolled in the IB program at Stanton and will greatly benefit from the college credits earned through this program. The proposed funding cuts would not only affect my child's educational experience but also the broader community. By reducing funding for these programs, we risk limiting the potential of our students to become highly skilled professionals who will contribute meaningfully to Florida's workforce.
I urge you to consider the long-term consequences of these funding cuts and the impact they would have on our students, schools, and communities. I respectfully request that you oppose House Bill 5101 and Senate Bill 2510 and work to protect the funding for these essential programs.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this matter.
Sincerely,
VJ
I do not support budget decisions with my tax dollars that contribute to reduced learning opportunities in our public schools. AP classes and due enrollment allow challenging opportunities for a young brilliant minds that need to be challenged and stretched. We should not be supporting less opportunities for this kind of learning, but more instead.
I am a student, and one that is focused on their future through the beauty of academics. My AP classes challenge me, and keep me engaged at school. One of my favorites-- even though the workload is intense-- is AP World History. It goes into the details of the beauty of the cultures around the world, the innovations we have made, and how interconnected we have become. But it also provides ideas as to how we have been wrong, the harsh actions that we have committed, and how to not repeat them. These are the courses that shape minds. That create thinkers, and analyzers, people who care. Cutting away funding for our classes will take these away. Will take away our thinkers. Our creators. The people that want to be challenged and want to learn.
If anything is going to be cut, it shouldn't be our education. That is what creates the future. Ensure our future, please.
