I am in and out of our schools on a weekly basis counseling with these awesome kids. I simply don’t understand why anyone would want to put legislation in place that would potentially harm our kids or weaken their educational opportunities. They are our leaders of tomorrow and the greatest natural resource we have. We must all support one another, especially our kids. I believe in CCPS. I’ve seen the results!
My name is Jeff McGuire and I have taught in the CCPS school system for 31 yrs. My children have gone through Catoosa County public schools and I am very supportive of what we are doing in our schools. We are striving every year to better our schools and what we are teaching to better prepare our students for the changing world that they will be faced with. Any more cuts to the funding of our schools will only hurt the students. It will require that some teachers lose their jobs due to cuts in the budget and this will make for larger class sizes and less individual attention that a student will be able to have due to the increased class size.
There are ways to make changes and then there is this. 27 yrs in public education and hv NEVER HAD ANY LOCAL LEGISLATORS ASK FOR INPUT IN HOW TO MAKE EDUCATION BETTER. Stop being tone deaf and connect with people in the trenches. This petition will not really make a change BUT VOTES WILL!!!!!!!!! REMEMBER this on the next election day!!!!
I have seen how public schools are losing great teachers because of the lack of funding for pay and overburdening of responsibilities. Public schools need to be helped in every way since this is where the majority of students attend school.
I’m not only a parent of two kids in the district, I’m also a proud product of the district. The behavior of Judy Bullockus (and her entire yellow bus cohort) is unprofessional, dishonorable, and sets a precedent for future behavior that cannot be ignored. She has chosen to double down on her actions rather than act with humility and grace; yet another poor example for our community and children. If I were a Black parent, or the mother of a Black child, I would be horrified. Those of us who have the privilege and ability to speak out on this issue should do so, remembering that today it is a board member using the “n” word, but tomorrow it could be an anti-Semitic slur or discrimination against the children of same-sex parents. Our families, our children, and our community deserve someone in leadership who holds themselves to a higher moral standard. Judy pays lip service to these things, but her behavior speaks for itself.
I'm appalled and shocked at not only the behavior of this woman, but the lack of awareness of the severity of the issue from the board majority. I'm a teacher who works with sensitive populations. I can only imagine how the students in our district must feel when they see adults who are supposed to be "trusted leaders" behaving this way. It's time for her to go.
I have worked in public education for 20 years and have always said education is the one thing no one can take away from you. Sadly, Governor Abbott is trying to weaken the access to public education that ALL Texas students deserve.
Public money should stay in public schools. Vouchers overwhelmingly benefit the wealthy, and the rest of us are getting tired of everything benefitting the wealthy these days. An issue like this should be on the ballot and allow the people to decide, but Abbott is afraid to do that. And withholding funds until he gets his way is a slap in the face of every teacher and parent of a student.
As a Christian Texas retired public school educator who invested 35 years into the lives of children, I am so very disappointed in the lack of support our governor and Republican lawmakers are showing for the majority of children in Texas. Our public tax dollars need to go to fully fund and expand public education, not private education. Follow our Texas Constitution and please do the right thing for our kids and public school educators in Texas!
