I served ten years on a 67 month sentence. I had a 60 month gun enhancement tacked onto my 67 month sentence, which garners zero earned time. No deaths, no injuries (besides my own) were involved in my Burglary charge. And I sat away from my child and wife for ten years instead of five. I now work two FULLTIME jobs, taking care of, and an active position in my family. This could have happened 33% of that extra five years earlier. And believe me, my situation is LIGHT compared to the countless others I’ve seen. Change needs to happen and it needs to happen quick.
I spent 20 years in prison and I can honestly say that while incarcerated I met some of the best people you could ever meet. Everybody makes poor decisions that land them behind bars but the way the judicial system is broken many never get a second chance at freedom. I’ve seen some of the greatest people become victims and literally give up on life because they wasn’t given the chance at a second chance. It’s so sad and so horrible to watch. And then watching a president pardon his son and also another pardon those that were in a riot given second chances it’s just showing how broken things are. Nobody is perfect but everyone deserves a second chance. It’s so many possibilities and positives that so many behind bars can come home and create. I totally believe that parole should be brought back. I mean you have guys watching other guys make parole because they fail before the timeline where parole was given out. It’s so unfair.
Love is a powerful motivator and there is a big disconnect between what we know in research and what's applied in the justice system, as if science does not exist. Some European prisons understand the direct link between fostering healthy attachment in inmates and the successful reintegration into society. Then again, in Europe there is no prison industrial complex so governments are more invested in understanding some problems, take some responsibility for the ways in which they failed inmates and attempting some repair. In America, prison is business therefore few are interested in understanding, taking responsibility, or making efforts to support a good outcome. To have inmates is to cash in and few are motivated to let go of the cash flow. I hope a conversation can be open to the idea of conjugal visits but I'm not sure anything is on the table. Thank you for the effort to get something out there!
I have not been able to speak to my son in three and a half months I have not heard his voice not to mention he is 6 hours from me as I am getting older this is more important as my health is declining slowly and I totally understand that he is in there for doing something wrong at the same time due to the way of life in prison sometimes being on lockdown with no communication to the outside world happens and unfortunately for some families this creates multiple Mental Health issues for both the inmate and the parent or family member not only have I not spoken to him in over 3 and 1/2 months but when he does get out and has to go back in for whatever reason they take the letters that were written and not sent and they don't give them back meaning that's one less piece of communication that I have it is now Christmas time and tomorrow my son will not be able to call me because he's on loss of privileges so that doesn't only affect him that affects his son me his mom and the rest of the family who loves and cares for him I believe it and make sure to have at least one phone call per day free of charge no matter the circumstance because that is there Lifeline to the outside world and sometimes all it takes is that one phone call to get them out of their own head especially after being in an isolation situation and the burden should always fall on the Family who has done nothing wrong and nothing to deserve it it does affect their mental health as well and that should be important as well

I signed because it’s outrageous that people in Kentucky are being denied access to life-saving treatment! Providing MAT for all inmates isn’t optional—it’s essential to stop overdose deaths. It’s time for Kentucky to step up and do what’s right!
I signed because everyone deserves access to life-saving treatment, and providing MAT for incarcerated individuals is essential to reducing overdose deaths and breaking the cycle of addiction.
I signed because everyone deserves a chance at recovery, even those who are incarcerated. Medication-assisted treatment can save lives and help people struggling with addiction get back on their feet. This is something that needs to happen now! Thank you for bringing this to everybody’s attention.
