My brother and sister-in-law just had a baby boy named Scott he was just born there 1 week ago!! I had one of my 2 sons there 12 years ago a week ago also!! We need a delivery area close by or we won't have anywhere to go within a 40 mile radius! They were very kind and friendly and always did great with our babies! I believe that hospital needs to keep the delivery doors open to expecting mothers and that's the best part of that hospital hand down!!!

It's a staple of our community and vital for the health of mothers in the area. I've birthed both my children at Tawas hospital and received amazing care. The staff that would put out of a job are caring members of our community who have made a difference in the lives of families locally for GENERATIONS. They deserve to keep the career they have built their life around!

Both my daughters were born in tawas with the excellent care of the OB department. If not for them things could have been worse for my youngest daughter. I thank them so very much

I had a beautiful baby at Tawas hospital in December, 2022. Since then I have struggled with infertility and hope to have a viable pregnancy in the future. I am an hour away from both West Branch and Alpena. If I do have another baby it will probably take me up to 2 hours to get there because I also will need to get my first child to her grandparents so I can have my husband for the birth. What about all the women without reliable transportation or a good support system? This is a disservice to them and our community as a whole. We need to have reliable rural health services locally.

I work in the ER at MyMichigan Tawas. Last April my worst nightmare came true, I was 37 weeks pregnant. We had a very busy day at work, I was working 10 hour shifts towards the end of my pregnancy. I stayed over to help since we were so busy, all of a sudden it occurred to me I had not felt my baby girl move. I started to panic but told myself we had been busy, I probably didn’t notice, I was probably over reacting. I immediately called down to OB, I went down there to have a NST. No one could find her heartbeat, they had to call ultrasound in. Everything happened so fast, no heartbeat was found, my little girl was gone. The feeling of sadness, numbness and being absolutely terrified to what happens next. The staff in the OB dept were there with me until my husband could arrive. We had to meet at the woman’s clinic the next morning to discuss the next steps, later that morning we were admitted to the hospital to be induced. Yes I work in the ER but I only knew a few of the nurses down there by name. Let me tell you, all of these woman are angels. Heather, Tasha, Suzanne, Laura, Theresa and Dr. Oravitz have made a lifelong impression that I will forever be grateful for and I will never forget. Since then we have had a miscarriage but I can happily say that we have made it to the 17th week mark this time, when I heard they were shutting down the OB dept in 5-8 months my heart shattered all over again. The people in this dept now feel like family, my husband and I have been looking forward to trying this again with a better outcome and to have these women by our side. As I sit here typing this out all I can do is cry. I’m heartbroken that this is how it all ends. Not only were they there for us in our darkest moments my husband is upset over this as well because he feels the same way I do with people he barely knows. We just recently had the whole ER wired to be able to do NST’s for women that come in for emergencies and need to have baby monitored as well, with no OB present anymore we won’t have this capability anymore. This is a huge loss for this community, I don’t care if there isn’t a fancy remodel in the dept, it’s the people that made it everything for me. I want to thank the OB dept at MyMichigan Tawas from the bottom of my heart, god bless you and I hope to god you guys are there for me in July because I don’t want to do this without you by my side. ❤️❤️

My siblings and I were born at the Tawas OB department. Also, all three of my children were born there. This area is rural and to travel even further than this location could impact health of baby and mother. I disagree with the decision of eliminating this department in MyMichigan Tawas Hospital.

Tawas Hospital has provided OB services to the community because it is a necessary service. It has never been a money making service. In a poorer, rural community to remove this service would be detrimental to both mother and baby. Rapid or complicated deliveries, weather conditions, lack of transportation are all factors that contribute to poor outcomes. This has been a vital service for the community for decades provided by trusted care givers. The community has worked hard to raise funds to support this department and purchase needed equipment. After the department closes, how long before the Drs leave and moms who can't afford to, don't receive maternity care because they can't travel an hour away every month or week? It's challenging to get good providers to come to the area and if you take away this department, that's another factor that would discourage young providers moving to the area. Will Tawas be returned to a 'bandaid' station and our community forced to travel for all their health care needs? The needs are great here as evidenced by our Community Needs Assessment. I, along with the rest of the community, implore you to reconsider your decision and keep the OB services at Tawas Hospital. Thank you!

I have birth to my beautiful daughter in January 2025. I could not have asked for better care than what we received in Tawas. My labor progressed very quickly and resulted in a c-section as my baby was in distress for quite some time. As someone of advanced maternal age at 35, I am scared to think what could have happened on a 30 mile car ride to the hospital in awful, snowy conditions. Tawas is a hub for other communities even farther away from West Branch than we are here. There is no way this decision will not have serious, life and death consequences for mothers and babies. PLEASE think of more than just the bottom line.

In 2018 I delivered twins in Tawas. I was high risk and the plan was for me to go to Saginaw when it was time "just in case." I never made it to Saginaw. My babies were born 6 weeks early in Tawas via emergency cesarean. One was still born and the other was transferred to NICU. The nurses and doctors in Tawas were amazing, and I NEVER would have made it anywhere else. My stillborn son was breech and I was dilated to 8 walking into their facility that day. If MyMichigan had their way then, I would have lost both babies and possibly myself on the side of the road trying to get to another hospital. Not all babies let their momma and doctors decide when it's time, not all deliveries are uneventful, and not all families live close enough to make that drive safely when a mother's water breaks at 2 am. Keep our OB where it's at. Our families deserve more than MyMichigan's measly financial savings.

Having to travel up to an hour away in order to give birth in a hospital is insane, and keeping pre and post birth care while throwing away actual labor care is a massive insult to those who might need all three. The expectant parents here matter enough to receive care before and after, but they're on their own during. Just give birth in a car or on the living room floor, for all MyMichigan seems to care.
