Reopen the Good Counsel Home in Poughkeepsie for Homeless Pregnant Women

The Issue

Our plea originates from a deeply personal space, driven by the relentless dedication and empathy of a family member. My mother-in-law has volunteered with Good Counsel for over an impressive span of 25 years, witnessing firsthand the transformative work they conduct in supporting pregnant women during their most vulnerable times. Until about 14 years ago, there was a Good Counsel home in Poughkeepsie, NY, providing vital service in the region. The closure of this home created a void that affected numerous homeless pregnant women, forcing them to travel to facilities as far as Rockland County.

For over three decades, since 1985, Good Counsel homes have nurtured over 1,368 newborn lives, a testament to their indispensable service in the society. By providing homeless pregnant women with a safe haven for a year, these homes educate, empower, and support women to welcome life with preparedness and hope.

Imagine the countless lives that could be touched, the cycle of homelessness broken, and the positive ripple effect a reopened facility could initiate in Poughkeepsie. We need over 2000 signatures. With this in mind, we urge the local authorities, citizens, and philanthropic bodies to partner with us, rally for support, and work towards the reopening of the Good Counsel home in Poughkeepsie. The well-being of our future generations depends on our actions today. Please sign this petition and advocate for the vulnerable mothers and babies who deserve a fighting chance at a brighter future.

*2000+ signatures will get the ball rolling but doesn’t guarantee that they will open a home in Poughkeepsie.*
