I wanted to share some concerns regarding the ongoing construction in our Dufferin community. It seems that the road lighting is insufficient, which can make it difficult for residents, especially those of us who don’t drive, to navigate while carrying laundry carts or other necessities.
Additionally, the construction noise at night can be pretty disruptive, and I worry about the safety of children crossing the street, particularly with the ongoing preparations for the new developments.
It would be beneficial to update the signal lights to ensure everyone's safety, as there is a risk of accidents when cars make turns. It might be worth considering pausing the project temporarily to assess how we can better address the needs of our community.
If the aim is to create a cycle lane, I hope we can find solutions that enhance Dufferin St instead of complicating it further. I appreciate the efforts to improve our area, and I’m hopeful we can collaborate on making choices that will benefit our community. Thank you for considering our feedback! City Hall should fix falling roads, such as the Dovercourt and Hallam areas. Or another street that needs more repairing, not Dufferin St
How can Dufferin St residents live with no stopping, no unloading groceries, no accommodation for tradespeople to maintain our homes, no opportunity for tenants to move in and out, and then we all stare at the RED LANE as a reminder that required living conditions are enjoyed buy everyone else except those of us who live on Dufferin St? Rationality would have to agree that this is not part of a definition of community living!
I have lived in Stoney Creek Creek for several decades & make regular use of the parking lot that's slated to be repurposed. I have used it for everything from attending various functions at Olde Village churches--including donating blood, attending fundraisers & attending funeral wakes & celebrations of life--to attending medical appointments. Also for shopping regularly in the Creek. Including going to the many special events, from the weekly Market in the Creek spring through fall, to events like the Strawberryfest, Jazz in the Creek & Boots in the Creek. How are businesses supposed to attract patrons if parking is hard to come by? The past few years have seen a variety of great new businesses along King St. in downtown Stoney Creek, several of which I frequent. But ample parking is a MUST in order to keep patrons coming & returning. The parking lot at issue is VERY MUCH used & needed, throughout the week & throughout the year. Furthermore, the idea of deconstructing Veterans' Lane behind the Stoney Creek Legion is unthinkable, adding insult to injury. I say this as someone from a military family who highly values veterans & their service. Including the important role the Branch 622 Stoney Creek Legion plays in the area in which it's located. As much as I'm a proponent of affordable housing, I do NOT believe that developing 5 & 13 Lake Ave. & destroying Veterans' Lane is the way to go about developing more of it. There are other options that would better suit citizens of Stoney Creek & the surrounding area, as well as visitors to downtown Stoney Creek. Please do not "kill the Creek" just as the Olde Stoney Creek Village is going through a welcome revival period of sorts. That would be a big mistake--a step backwards that cannot be justified.
