I knew Marcos for years as our pest control man, and he was cheerful, warm, easygoing and absolutely one of the nicest people I knew. I only learned of his death because we suddenly had a new serviceman, and it was a gut punch to hear what happened. This is a sickening tragedy that needs resolution; punishing the teen isn't enough- the teen needs to perform community service, and speak to young drivers about what he did.
Best to the families, and know that they touched many lives, and will be remembered. Glasses raised.
Thank you Mrs.Gem. this is breaking our hearts. Gorman has been our family home away from home since 2016 to present & 4 of my children have graduated from there & I have two more to graduate from Gorman. Gorman has become our family and has been there for all my children with their IEPs and I really feel in my heart that Gorman has given my children more help and extra help than the public schools ever has. We can't let Gorman close not in the Antelope Valley you guys aren't only our teachers, principles, office staff, students, you guys are all our family and I know my daughter Savannah Jelsvik is upset about this because she has a lot of memories since second grade & awesome friends, special teachers dear to her heart all the way through going into ninth grade that she will be going into this school year and not only that my grandson one day a week loves going to campus & you guys have really helped my special needs granddaughter that needs you guys. We all got to fight to keep our av Center open I know my daughter-in-law is here for her family & for mine if I wasn't sick I would be there in a heartbeat. Mrs. Gem, hold your head high. We got this. 🥰❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏
As a professional tutor working in the AV and at the Lancaster Library, I see first hand just how much the children of our community are in dire need of supplemental education and staff who actually care about their learning. If anything, this community is in need of more learning resources and facilities to supplement their learning journey, not less. We should not be depriving the AV from facilities such as the Gorman Learning Center as it would be a disservice to the educational future of our youth and a disservice to our community.
The Gorman Learning Center has helped me in so many ways throughout the years. Every year, I feel like I belong in an amazing community of students and teachers. It has helped me to grow in my education but also to grow in my social life. Whenever I went to the AVRC, I’d look around me and think of how blessed I am to be there. All of the teachers and students are very kind to me, and I don’t want to lose the AVRC. it has changed my life for the better. Please don’t take away this important part of my life.
Gorman Learning Center has helped myself, my brother, and some of my best friends more than i can ever imagine. They helped me get through some of the most hardest 4 years i’ve dealt with and if i hadn’t been able to have the chances and abilities they’ve gifen me i dont know where i would be at.
I have been with Gorman learning center since first grade and have gone to the avrc since then, it has brought me so many opportunities and helped me meet some of my best friends and most trusted friends, it has helped me acedemically and challenged me to become more independent and learn how to keep myself accountable. I can't imagine not going to the avrc after going there my entire academic time.
I strongly believe in the mission and value of Gorman Learning Center. It provides a unique, student-centered approach that empowers families and learners with choice, creativity, and personalized instruction. Losing this vital educational option would be a disservice to the many students who thrive in alternative learning environments. I urge decision-makers to preserve and invest in Gorman Learning Center so that future generations can continue to benefit from its outstanding programs.
Gorman Learning Center genuinely has to be the best school I've been to. It provides its students with a very flexible education and opens many opportunities to students. I am a new student at the Antelope Valley Resource Center, and I feel that I am thrived educationally at this school a lot better than I have at other schools. This school genuinely has an amazing community well as amazing and kind students. The staff and teachers are very welcoming. Unlike other schools, this school makes me feel like I have a safe place where I belong and am a part of something. This school has helped me make amazing friends and has become a place where I look forward to being, rather that dreading on a daily basis. I am very grateful for everyone I've been able to meet and the time I've been able to spend here. To take this school away from its students, families, communities, and staff would be horrible.
