The International High School Accreditation (IHSA) topic focuses on the accreditation process for high schools worldwide. Accreditation is crucial for ensuring quality education and institutional accountability. Recent trends show a growing emphasis on international standards and practices in education. Key issues in IHSA petitions include advocating for fair evaluation criteria, transparency in accreditation processes, and support for schools in underserved communities.
One notable petition calls for standardized accreditation procedures to eliminate bias and ensure consistency across schools. Another petition highlights the need for culturally relevant curriculum and teacher training in diverse educational settings. By exploring and supporting these petitions, you can contribute to creating a more equitable and inclusive education system globally.

Debate is critical to democracy. Participating in high school debate teaches young people face-to-face communication and listening skills, and gives them the ability to form opinions based on study and research of fact-based information. It extends to teaching solution-based compromise due to its very nature of bringing two (or more) sides of an issue together in a civilized format. All of these characteristics are sorely lacking in every corner of today’s government. In fact, in every corner of today’s society. High school debate should not be limited or removed - it should be expanded, even included as required education. It is critical that current and future generations learn these skills for the sake of democracy.
The IHSA has been an amazing experience for me since freshman year. Without my placement, I would never have been accepted into Equality in Forensics, and the countless opportunities that I've enjoyed as a part of my involvement through that amazing organization. By cancelling the tournament (for PF, LD, CX, and Congress too), the IHSA has removed an important opportunity for debate seldom available in Illinois.

I've been doing debate for almost 3 years now, and was involved both before the IHSA stopped sponsoring, and after. The IHSA name brings a lot of weight and makes the efforts of all debaters involved in the competition a lot more meaningful. Bringing back the IHSA sponsorship is incredibly important!
I've been in debate for four years now, and I can say without a doubt that the IHSA tournament is the most impactful tournament I have ever gotten the chance to attend. It isn't just fun to compete at - it also connects debate to hundreds of individuals who would otherwise never be allowed to participate in this amazing opportunity. While the IHSA originally cut debate because of a lack participation, this has turned into a self-fulfilling prophecy: without IHSA, there can be no participation.
As captain of the Public Forum debate team at Homewood-Flossmoor, it saddens me to see that my club could potentially not be supported in the future. I've had a wonderful 4 years of debate, and we have many new novices this year who would see great success over the coming years in Debate. It's been my place for high-level discussion and research, and it'd be unfortunate to diminish this opportunity for future debaters.
