I am a cancer patient, wife and mother. Telehealth visits are a life saver in trying to reach specialists & Drs for ongoing treatment all while trying to juggle a full time job, kids activities & trying to get a meal on the table. I would have to take so much more time off if I had to travel for every Drs appointment. I can save my PTO for when I’m sick or other family emergencies. I’d loose a lot of pay if I had to travel for every visit. Sometimes a in person visit is warranted, so maybe some criteria for in person visits as opposed to completely eliminating this vital service. Please help save telehealth!
This is a vital service for so many who are physically unable to travel easily, have no transportation, are immunocompromised, etc. Telehealth MUST remain available to Medicare recipients!
Seniors may not be able to drive or have someone to take them to their appointments. Telehealth enables them to keep healthy and possibly avoid a hospital stay. Money well spent.
My father-in-law had dementia. Taking him outside of his home and then from the facility caused his demeanor to change. He became more confused and agitated. It would then take a couple days to get him settled back into his regular routine.
Also, I work in the health care area of a state prison. Telehealth programs are used inside the facilities for several reasons. Taking an offender out of the facility increases the safety risk to the custody staff, medical staff, and the public. Scheduling appointments outside of the facility can cause delays in treatment, having telehealth available, can aid the patient in being seen sooner. Some offenders are uncomfortable in settings outside of the facility or being around people, so having telehealth services available better suits their physical, mental, and emotional needs, as well as keeping the staff and public safe.
People have not stopped being immunocompromised just because we all want to believe COVID is over and done with. Cancer, autoimmune disease, immunosuppressant drugs, and long COVID - among others - can all make public ventures a dangerous risk. Many patients cannot drive due to their conditions or side effects of medications used to treat them. Having access to telehealth visits limits unnecessary exposures to communicable diseases that could be life-threatening for these individuals, keeps people who should not be driving off the road for their safety and the safety of others, and ensures the receipt of dignified care. I am not on Medicare, but I am immunocompromised. Scaling back telehealth visits in private practice and insurances has been an undue hardship on me and my household. People on Medicare do not need any more hardship to contend with. Be a part of their healing and continue to cover their telehealth visits!
As a military member and chaplain at the VA, this issue is important to me because I see firsthand the need for healthcare (and mental healthcare) in any way and that includes in-home and virtual healthcare! Please consider the lack of mobility for many or the sheer terror and hardship for others to leave their homes! Keep compassion in care no matter where it is!
Cutting Medicare telehealth coverage would be a step backward for healthcare. Telehealth has made it easier for people to get care, especially those who struggle with mobility, live far from a doctor, or simply need quick follow-ups that don’t require an in-person visit. Since the pandemic, telehealth has proven itself as an effective, affordable, and convenient way to provide medical care.
If this coverage is restricted, what happens next? More seniors will skip necessary check-ups because traveling to a doctor is too difficult. Chronic conditions will go unmanaged, leading to more ER visits and hospitalizations—driving up costs for everyone. Rural patients will once again face long, expensive trips just to get basic medical advice. Caregivers will have to take time off work to drive loved ones to unnecessary in-person appointments.
This decision isn’t just about policy—it’s about real people who rely on telehealth to stay healthy and independent. We should be expanding access to telehealth, not limiting it. I strongly urge you to protect full Medicare coverage for telehealth so that people can continue to get the care they need when and where they need it.
As a psychotherapist, I can confirm on the provider-side just how important telehealth access is to my patients. Limiting telehealth access means limiting people's chances at recovery and wellness. It's as simple as that. Thank you for fighting to ensure that all people have equal access to quality behavioral health care, no matter where they happen to live.
