My mental health suffers every year from seasonal depression. It would be tremendously helpful to so many like me to see this year's leap ahead made permanent to mitigate the impact of having less sunlight during winter months, but most especially evenings. Longer evenings of light would be so beneficial to mental health for our country!
I deeply urge members of Congress to pass this bill and abolish the outdated and harmful practice of changing the clocks twice a year. The practice of switching between Daylight Savings Time and Standard Time was established over a century ago, and it has far outlived its usefulness. The practice of changing the clocks twice a year is detrimental to public health and safety without creating any benefits to the American public. I ask that Congress and the President of the United States please do what is in the best interest of the American people and finally eliminate this obsolete and unnecessary policy.
Make spring forward the permanent time. Fall back and getting dark so early in fall/winter is hard for me. I work basically 8-5. When I can't get off work and enjoy being outside, it makes me feel as if all I do is work, sleep and work. Getting outside, getting fresh air, & getting natural vitamin D helps me naturally be more active and feel healthier. Every year I dread the "fall back" to standard time every year and feel like I'm half asleep all winter. I feel more active, more alert and mentally and physically healthier after we "spring forward".
Many teenagers, like myself, are politically educated and want a say in who rules our country. If the voting age is lowered, it means that younger voices would be heard, it would promote more voting, and possibly encourage more teens to educate themselves politically to prepare. Sixteen year olds should be allowed to vote and stand for what they believe in.
Less time with family as soon as the weather gets nice? Less time to get things done. That hour is precious. The government is literally taking weeks away from us once it's all said and done. Standard time is the actual time. I grew up on standard time. There is so much added stress with errands, what it does to you mentally, and it throws a wrench in structure. I also despise gaining an hour of darkness in the cold, depressing months. Time is a true commodity.
