Cycling safety is a critical issue worldwide, with an increasing number of cyclists sharing roads with motor vehicles. Recent trends show a rise in cycling accidents and fatalities, highlighting the need for better infrastructure and awareness to protect cyclists. Petitions within this topic focus on improving road safety measures, such as adding bike lanes, implementing speed limits, and educating drivers on sharing the road responsibly.
One impactful petition calls for the creation of more dedicated bike lanes in urban areas, citing statistics that reveal the high rate of accidents involving cyclists. Another petition urges policymakers to enforce stricter penalties for drivers who endanger cyclists, emphasizing the importance of holding accountable those who put vulnerable road users at risk.
Join the movement to promote cycling safety by supporting these petitions and advocating for a safer environment for cyclists. Your voice can help drive positive change and make streets safer for all road users.
As another commenter stated, a driver died on Oakdale roughly a month ago because they were going 70mph in a 30mph zone. There are no speed bumps on Oakdale despite several crosswalks, including the Silver Comet crossing. It is a highly pedestrian area for people exercising or walking with their dogs or children. I’m hoping we don’t have to wait for pedestrian fatalities to occur for something to be done.
A single car accident killed the driver of the car yesterday (04/18/25) At Oakdale & West Village Crossing. Directly behind our house. He was traveling at a high rate of speed.
A jogger ended up on the hood of a car here just a few weeks ago. Fortunately she wasn’t hurt! These are only a few of dozens of dangerous events I’ve witnessed.
Serious speed bumps and crosswalks at appropriate locations need to be installed. Several people (including me) have voiced our concerns, but to date, nothing has been done. For the record the Smyrna Administration says that Cobb County is who needs to address this situation.
Crossing Wiggins Pass by Tarpon Cove is so dangerous, just to get to a sidewalk. It would be a great investment of our tax dollars to have the present sidewalk lengthened to reach Tarpon Cove, the only community on that side of the street.
Thank you. Judy Cruz, full time resident.
Increased traffic on Wiggins Pass Rd has made it more difficult not just to walk across, but to turn left when exiting the community. A sidewalk on the north side that residents of Tarpon Cove can use would also reduce vehicle traffic to the shopping center.
