There are too many stories of people getting away with murder in small communities in Indiana. I know of one off the top of my head where i grew up where a man murdered someone and nothing ever really happened to him. I'm sure this was more of an issue the further in the past we go but it is still an issue that deserves to be addressed.
After seeing so many ppl die from drug abuse, violence, and suicide, you begin to see how the smallest mistake in police reports, court cases, and the general handling of the case can affect the lives of the victims family. The ppl we are supposed to trust these tasks with need to be held to the highest of standards.
I have also lost a loved one due to negligence by police and surrounding proper investigators. I'd help in anyway possible to help a family close a case and gain closure.
This is also a problem in the small town I live in. We always say, as long as you know the right person, you could get away with murder here. Let's fix that everywhere!! Because it sounds like that's the case everywhere.
Justice for this momma!!
As a student of the legal and criminal justice field with several family members working closely with the courts and police, I am deeply troubled by the lack of transparency, accountability, and documentation regarding alleged suicides. Every victim deserves a thorough and complete death investigation, which is not possible without introducing further measures to assure the validity of investigation and the preservation of essential records. Protect Indiana families from fouled investigations and move to ensure the validity of future investigations by adopting the measures in this petition.
This story is so powerful. I’ve been in domestic violence situations before and in many situations the police don’t do their job, as is the case here. Ive known of a situation where the guy was a registered sex offender and the district attorney still didn’t bring a case against him. These children are a powerful voice for their mother. <3
Sure seems like there should be a standard policy and procedure, and if those assigned to the investigation don't follow the protocol, there should be consequences to hold them accountable. Verbal warning, written warning, termination. The mishandling of evidence is preventable. No one should have to go through this, not your mom and not her loved ones.
The lack of a medical examiner system in Indiana will only continue to allow miscarriages of justice occur. Without better systems, this will always be a state where innocent people can easily be murdered without justice. At the very least, the requests in this petition would go some way toward helping the loved ones of victims of violence.
Mrs. Caraveo deserves justice, and her family deserves closure. If the richest in our society gets no stone unturned for investigation for justice, than so do people in small towns. This shouldn’t have happened, and Indiana needs to do better by their constituents!!
