As someone who has lived here for 25+ years, we have seen the negative impact of the 2nd street closure that was originally for the benefit of the community. The street closure, would be make the parking situation on our street unsafe and much harder than it already is. As someone who constantly uses the entrance/exit of 1st and Bimini place, closing it would make it harder for me to transport when going to appointments , work, etc. Seeing the amount of times the rehabilitation center beside me has needed the assistance of first responders would be extremely affected as well. Adding more time to critical life threatening injuries/situations.
For 24 years I have lived here, and the street closures have not benefited the community, only people who come from other places because for us there is no access. In addition, this closure would affect parking and security for Virgil students and people who attend Bresee Foundation.
I live on Bimini Place opposite the stop sign by White House Pl. which many people never stop for. I often witness near collisions as people make a U-turn at White House Pl. My counter proposal to Bimini Plaza is to make Bimini Terrace a one-way street with traffic calming infrastructure such as speed bumps to reduce high speed traffic on this tiny street.
This is a residential area with most residential buildings not offering parking. Additionally, these street accompanies a grocery store, a community center, a middle school and more. Less accessibility for parking will lead to more parking fines and violations being given to people in a lower-income area. Additionally, who will upkeep the area once it’s installed?
I grew up in this streets. Visit my family there frequently. Use to play up and down Bimini with my cousins. Don’t close it down. Keep our childhood memories alive.
Growing up in the community and directly on Bimini for 24years of my 27years we’ve seen that the closure of our streets for “community parks” have not benefited our community. The closure of Bimini/white house would be a great disservice to our community and would entail require our children to walk through the dangerous avenue to get home and to their community outreach program. There already exists a lack of parking for residents in the area now imagine what parking would look like after. There are so many factors that are being neglected by the agenda that is being pushed.
I have lived here for 25 years . I was here when they closed off 2nd Street to make the “community park” , at first it was that a community park and then it got gated off. What is to say this won’t happen again ? Parking is already a struggle not to mention unsafe when you have to park blocks away at night just to get home . Now you want to take away more parking ? We already struggle with street congestion because of the schools and stores surrounding us. Now we will only have one way to get in and out ? It is unsafe. Also , how do you justify spending $270,408 for this project ? I have so much more to say . Please join the meeting Meeting Regarding People St Plaza on Bimini Place

I have been living in Bimini Place for 24 years, serving in the community for some years. I think this project is unnecessary because we already have churches, the Bresee Community Center, and Bimini Recovery Home that need more help. In addition, it affects many people who live there for our safety and that of our families, parking, and traffic. Where could the garbage service or street cleaning service go if the street is too narrow for them to make a U-turn?
