I suggest the organisers link up with domestic abuse charities as I have seen other petitions on here asking for the same legal recognition of pets. their reason? abusers often target, steal, or use a beloved pet to blackmail their victim, making it harder for them to leave a dangerous situation. this legal classification of animals as property is centuries outdated and needs to change - it happened with children as property so why not for our beloved animals too?
The love most people feel for their pets is immeasurable.....they are family. For some people, a beloved pet is the closest bond they have in life.
This needs to be recognised by authorities in every situation where a pet is harmed through reckless and criminal behaviour.
The Law and sentencing of vile cretins who cause this soul destroying heartbreak really need to be rewritten and punishments increased 100%.
I'm so sorry for your devastating loss x
Our pets are not property, they are our family. Loosing a pet is hard enough, but in a situation like this where they are deemed "property" in an arson investigation is just awful. They are living creatures that rely on us, they become our family so should be counted as a life lost not a item damaged.
You can replace a item, you cannot replace a pet because they are all unique
As the saying goes, the greatness of a nation & its progress is judged by how its animals are treated.
This case broke my heart & I commend Louise for starting such a petition in the midst of her grief and if she reads this I send you much love.
Wish I could do more to help, so glad this is on mainstream news so more people can see it.
Peggy's law will remind people how to treat ALL sentient beings. I extend this to wildlife, and nature, all living organisms should be protected so when evil people harm them they are fully punished. The law is way overdue, and a country that does not protect all creatures is no country at all.
RIP Peggy
Huge hug to Louise for all that she has suffered.
Let's make this happen!
This made me cry 😢
I have an abusive ex and you always worry about things like this. Police are useless- can't do anything until something happens!
That beautiful little soul Peggy, lost her life. Animals are not property- they are sentient beings with every right to a life without fear. x
Animals are living, breathing, feeling individuals who deserve kindness and respect. They certainly understand fear and pain. Majority of them are well loved valued members of their carers
family. Loosing them agreed is hard enough but under such tragic circumstances is definitely harder. If it was a human being the perpetrator would be charged with murder or at least manslaughter. Why should a loved pet not be allowed some dignity in this even if not to the same level.
Please let Mo still go in coop,Mo is a beautiful Cat,People love seeing Mo,We have Mental health issues and anxiety,We hated going shopping,so we would do without,Then one day we had to go to coop,Well Mo was there making us welcome, cuddling our legs and purring very very friendly, So since then we love going to coop only because of Mo,Yous stopping Mo going in store well yous would be People like us not going back, plus hundreds more
LEAVE MO WHERE SHE BELONGS PLEASE
We are behind Mo. The Community Cat that sits in the Co-Op at Newtongrange. Why? Because we have been chosen by Button, the Community Cat, that sits/attends classes/lounges/purrs her way through a day at our gaff at the Beacon. Button picked us (the day she realised she could open the doors). Mo picked the Co-Op. We felt AWFUL Button was not going home. But we spoke to her owners - they are happy that she is happy snoozing in a chair each day. Button decided that she would like to be clapped and petted by the a) the children attending the nursery b) to be a 'safe space' for so many children with neurodiversity where the cafe is too much c) to be the 'therapy' for many who don't have pets but long that connection. It's not just about a cat being in a space, it's about a cat being for what people need. Yeah, we do feel strongly about this. We are grateful her owners see what she does on a daily basis. She isn't OURS, she is the Beacon Community Cat. That is special. We would love the Co-Op 'head honchos' to realise that. Does anyone 'hate' Button? No, we have three people who aren't keen on cats, and we hope that they are happy with the way we keep Button away from them. Co-Op. Pet Therapy isn't is a fad Some of your customers LONG for the connection with a pet/animal. Yes, it takes work. But, it's so simple. You have a COMMUNITY champion. Does anyone see that? Get a grip. See it! We love our community cat, if you allowed the cat to do the work, urgh, we can't believe you can't see this?!
I work in a community hub, just up the road from Newtongrange. We have a Community Cat called Button. We (staff, volunteers, users, cafe users) adore her. SHE picked us. Button. We know that she is a 'undiagnosed therapy cat'. So, we are behind Mo. The Community Cat that sits in the Co-Op at Newtongrange. Why? Dawn, not the Beacon in Gorebridge, this is personal!
