My kids went through this during their years in the public school system. A system that victimizes victims repeatedly and entitles the bullies because “ they deserve a right to education too” well my kids and now my grandchildren deserve a right to receive their education without fear of being beaten or worse!
After reading through all the comments I am deeply saddened. Saddened that so many children and families have and are struggling to have their needs met and voices heard at HCCS. It is clear there is a lack of action when it comes to addressing concerns and meeting children’s needs.
Our son too has struggled with bullying at HCCS. We have found approaching most staff and administration to be a frustrating experience resulting in no changes. He has been hit, kicked, tripped, pushed into walls, teased, had numerous personal possessions broken intentionally by other students.
Initially we were quick to attempt contact to discuss these issues with staff and administration. However our concerns were repeatedly disregarded, we were told there’s really nothing that can be done, or there was little to no consequence or follow up with the students bullying our son and destroying his possessions.
This is simply unacceptable. Children should be safe and comfortable at school, with no fear of physical or emotional harm. They should also feel safe to approach administration to report bullying, which is something our son feels he can no longer do, fearing the situation will be turned against him and he will be punished, or seeking help will make the situation worse. He has told us repeatedly that the principal doesn’t care and nothing will be done, so there is no point in seeking help, and honestly I’m not sure he’s wrong.
Everyday when getting him ready for school I wonder what kind of day he will have, worry about the bullying he might face, and question why nothing ever seems to change. It breaks my heart to see him resigned and shut down getting on the bus in the morning. No child should dread their day at school.
Clearly, given the number of other families in the same position there needs to be change at HCCS.
My brother spent most of his years at holland chatsworth coming home distraught from the mistreatment by students and staff, anytime we tried to do anything we got brushed off. Sad to see how little they care.
Even thought I am not in the area anymore..
lets do the math.... 300 students and almost 200 signatures.
if only when I was growing up in the area, if i had been diagnosed, my life would have been SO much different!
As a older sibling to 2 kids who attend/have attended this school, it's absolutely heartbreaking to hear about the things that they have encountered. My brother comes home from school everyday exhausted beyond belief due to the relentless bullying he faces without anyone there to help him. From my understanding, no one has been of any help towards my parents who have been urging the principal to do something. He comes home everyday talking about kids who hit him, push him around, call him names/derogatory slurs and it's heartbreaking to see a kid with so much light and laughter in him be turned into a quiet shell of himself because of how he is treated. This school needs some serious change.
During my children’s time at Holland Chatsworth, I experienced ongoing and deeply troubling issues related to Tracy’s conduct and decision-making as principal. Her carelessness in handling not only my children, but other students as well, consistently raised serious concerns—particularly regarding the safety and well-being of my 4-year-old daughter in kindergarten, who has Type 1 diabetes.
Despite repeated efforts to advocate for my daughter’s medical needs, I was met with resistance and indifference. Tracy’s unwillingness to collaborate or prioritize proper care created an unsafe environment. If it were not for the exceptional efforts of the Educational Assistants and teachers at the school, I would have withdrawn my children much sooner. I had a strong support system in the staff, and I am incredibly grateful for all they did—but they were limited in what they could do when facing opposition from leadership.
Following the Christmas break, my daughter was to return to school with a critical change in her diabetes management—she had been placed on an insulin pump. Shockingly, Tracy insisted she attend school without ensuring that any of the EAs who would be supporting her had received proper training. This was not only unacceptable—it was dangerous. Her lack of action demonstrated a serious lapse in judgment and a disregard for the basic duty of care owed to students.
Due to her continued disregard for her responsibilities, I made the decision to withdraw my children from Holland Chatsworth and transition to homeschooling. It was not a choice I made lightly, but one I felt was necessary to protect their well-being. In my view, keeping someone like Tracy in a position of leadership poses a significant risk to other students, particularly those with complex medical or educational needs.
I urge you to take these concerns seriously and conduct a thorough review of the leadership at Holland Chatsworth. No family should be forced to choose between their child’s education and their safety.
When I attended holland Chatsworth school, not only was I mistreated by students but teachers aswell. I was going to school once ever 14days so I would not get demitted, Since Holland centre I have struggled going to school which has made my grades slip and I have no where near the credits I need in grade 11. Tracy brushed off every conversation/meeting me and my mom had with her and blamed it on my ADHD amongst other things. I feel tracy is not in the right role in the school board and needs to be re-evaluated as the principal of HCCS. One of my experiences with her was I was breaking up a fight and successfully broke it up by ripping the other person off someone because she wouldn't step in and she was standing right there i also got suspended that day for breaking it up. If you want your kid being under that supervision get help.
I voiced my concerns to Tracy when my son came home and told me the provincial elections took place in the school. I questioned why there was no communication from the school. The reply I got was it was not her decision.
Not to mention the school news letter has not been delivered on time all year! I can not believe she will be returning to HCCS. I hope the BWDSB does the right thing.
I had the same experience with Laurie Gilkinson at Keppel-Sarawak she bullied my child who at the time had not yet been diagnosed with ADHD, she would call and berate me about his behaviour, she would scream and yell, I had never seen anyone in such a position act in such a childlike manner. My son got to the point where he did not want to go to school, it was terrible and left me feeling helpless. My son relayed to me that Mrs. Gilkinson threatened to call the police on him a number of times as well as other children, these are 8 year olds we are talking about, I wasn't sure if I believed him until one day when called to pick him up she threatened him in front of me to call the police on him! That was the last day he attended that school. Lauren Lipsett is completely useless along with all the administrators I have tried to deal with, they are dismissive, and defensive, they hide behind "privacy" and simply do not give a shit, about anyone's child. Lipsett repeatedly told me that was my "perspective" gaslighting me as if what I heard didn't occur. They're overpaid undertrained, unqualified and lack basic communication skills that a position of theirs would require. Sorry to hear the same kind of attitudes exist in other schools and other children are suffering as well. Might be time for the provincial government to intervene in the operation of this school board, clearly there is no oversight, or accountability, just people covering their own asses.
