I’ve lived in Park Slope all of my 65 years and blessed to still be able to afford to. I’ve seen all of the changes and like many of the original Park Slope residents we constantly shake our heads and ask wth. Let’s go back to the reason why Barnes and Noble was bought to Park Slope in the first place. With that said there’s a saying “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. It ain’t broke it’s a blessing as it serves the neighborhood and those that visit. LEAVE IT ALONE! Peace and Blessings!
Making Election Day a federal holiday in the United States could increase voter turnout by providing citizens with more time to vote without work conflicts. In the 2020 election, 13.1% of registered voters who didn’t vote cited being too busy or having scheduling conflicts as the reason. Additionally, such a holiday would celebrate democracy, turning voting into a nationwide event. This approach aligns with practices in other countries and has significant public support; a Pew Research Center survey found that nearly 80% of Democrats and nearly 70% of Republicans favor making Election Day a federal holiday.
I'm signing because many food vendors ignore food safety rules, vend in prohibited locations, and owners of food carts ask vendors to sleep on benches or inside carts in violation of labor laws. Carts are left overnight for weeks during the warmer months instead of returning to a commissary for cleaning as required. The situation has turned our historic neighborhood into a circus and agencies are doing almost no enforcement to halt the illegal activities by vendors that threaten public health, price gouge tourists and lower the quality of life for locals.
The venders are causing multiple safety issues. They block the sidewalks, making them impossible to pass. People who rely on wheelchairs or other walking assistance devices become trapped. Others must risk their safety by walking in the street in order to get by.
I’m signing because the situation in dumbo has gotten out of control - the unlicensed vendors selling gifts and food are crowding the already crowded streets of our neighborhood and are making it impossible to walk on streets for those of us who call Dumbo home. The illegal vendors are taking revenue from the actual small businesses that have set up their roots in Dumbo and the food vendors are polluting our streets with their waste, smoke, and one vendor was even sighted on Washington Street near the Brooklyn Bridge walkway entrance taking a poop on the street. The trash from these illegal food trucks is also filling up our already full trash cans on the streets. Mayor Adams - we need help!
The vendors do not display prices and rip off tourists, which is unfortunate but my issue is they take up too much space on sidewalks and block low curbs. Ppl with wheelchairs, walking devices and strollers are tasked with moving around the vendors. Any why so many? It’s an eye sore.
We live in Rockaway where there are such limited options for sports and other after school activities. Aviator has been a place that we’ve turned to for fun, community, and connection. My son is only four but we’ve already gone to Avoator for gymnastics and soccer and were looking forward to many years of activities. It would be such a blow to lose access to these experiences.
