Please remove the rumble strips on US 1 between Hobe Sound and Tequesta along Jonathan Dickinson Park. These things have ruined road cycling in our community and are a hazard to cyclists and motorists alike as we now have to ride in the motor vehicle lane.
I’ve almost wrecked badly while riding in the bike lane, because of the rumble strips. Many cyclists will end up crashing from them which will damage very expensive bikes and is seriously putting the cyclists lives at risk.
A friend of mine got seriously hurt out on Hutchinson Island. The bike path had some roots growing under the path he crossed over the rumble strips and went down. He has a broken calcavle cracked ribs. What were they thinking when they installed these rumble strip!!! This area of Florida is not bike friendly. I just got back from Miami lots of cyclist no rumble strips … Fix it before some gets killed !!!! My friend was lucky he didn’t get run over !!!!
This is one of the most unsafe things I’ve ever seen on bike paths. For those of us on 3 wheels or those pulling a trailer with 2 wheels, this is now a tremendous hazard. Our 2 wheels in the front or back of our trikes or on the trailer are now hampered meaning that in many spots of the bike paths, we will actually be riding on the rumble strips. This will cause our trikes and trailers to sway and could cause us to either move into traffic, move into our fellow cyclists, or move into the grass, sand, water or whatever area is to our right. With this said, there is now a higher probability of crashes leading to injuries and fatalities. This needs to be corrected ASAP! Cover the rumble strips or widen the bike path!
Lane departure strips should be in the motor vehicle lane as opposed to the bike line. They are dangerous inside the bike lane for many reasons , if there is any debris at all in the bike lane you risk losing control of your bicycle not to mention possibly weakening the structural integrity of the bike. The strips are also notorious for causing flat tires , broken wheels , seat post etc .
Makes it impossible to ride in groups which is much safer than riding alone.
What few bike lanes we have are already too narrow, often encroached by grass and sand, and now by the rumbles. People that are not road cyclists do not understand the dangers the rumbles create. When a bike flips you are catapulted into the pavement possibly into traffic. I know from experience. It has life and death potential and you have no control over it. Please fix this hazard!
Freedom is America's greatest principle. In order to have true freedom in this country, we must have freedom of movement. Car dependency does not allow for freedom of movement, nor is it fiscally viable. Bike lanes enable more people, including those with disabilities, to get around in a safer, more efficient manner. Bike lanes also save the county money in maintenance and bring more business and opportunities to local shops and restaurants. Bike lanes area a triple WIN situation!
Maryland needs more infrastructure for bikes and scooters! With the rise in use of e-bikes and e-scooters, there need to be safety features implemented on the roads for us.
I can't tell you how many cars speed past me, honk at me, etc just for being on the road when not only are many of the sidewalks unusable for anyone on wheels, but we have a right to the road too!
more bikes and scooters can fit in a lane than cars, and the more people use these options, the more traffic is reduced for people in cars and the less damage is done to the already suffering roads of baltimore.
and don't let the fire dpt say that bike lanes block their trucks! they need smaller emergency vehicles like they have in europe and japan, and they would be able to use bike lanes to respond to emergencies faster!
