Improve Public Transportation and Develop Walkable Routes to Reduce Smog

The Issue

As a resident of Los Angeles who is reliant on public transportation and cherishes the freedom to walk and bike freely around the city, I've personally witnessed the debilitating effects of smog due to vehicle pollution. Every day, our air quality is compromised; our visibility reduced; our health is risked, a reality that's painfully noticeable yet often ignored. We can't postpone this issue any further.

Cities thrive when their residents can move around them freely. Accessible and efficient public transport, along with bike lanes and pedestrian sidewalks, are common ways other cities have achieved this. It's time LA followed suit. Not only will this make our city more livable, but it could drastically cut down on our air pollution levels.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, transportation accounts for 29% of total U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions. We believe that improved bus and metro services that cover more parts of our city could help drop that figure significantly. Concurrently, providing safe and accessible paths for walking and biking for short distances could decrease the necessity for cars and thereby, reduce our individual carbon footprints.

Let's make a collective effort towards a cleaner, healthier city. For our sake and the sake of future generations, let's lobby for improved public transport systems and pedestrian-friendly facilities. Together, we can make a change and reclaim the clear blue sky that LA deserves. Please sign this petition and join in the fight against smog.
