The Issue

I love biking around Groveland for fun. Each ride is an opportunity to connect with nature, release stress, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. However, my excitement is often overshadowed by the lack of safety on our streets. The absence of dedicated bike lanes and the state of our sidewalks, with their cracks, overgrown bushes, and falling branches, makes every outing a challenge. It's difficult to feel confident when every ride has an element of danger.

Many residents in Groveland face similar issues. The cracked sidewalks aren't just a concern for cyclists, but also for pedestrians, senior citizens, and those with mobility aids. Overgrown bushes and fallen branches create hazardous conditions that can lead to accidents and injuries.

Research by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlights the importance of infrastructure in ensuring cyclists' safety. Bike lanes provide a designated space for cyclists, reducing the risk of accidents between cyclists and motor vehicles. Cities with dedicated bike lanes have reported a significant decrease in cyclist injuries and fatalities.

The town of Groveland has a responsibility to provide safe and accessible infrastructure for all its residents. Implementing dedicated bike lanes and repairing sidewalks will not only enhance safety for cyclists and pedestrians but will also encourage more people to choose biking or walking as sustainable modes of transportation.

We propose the following solutions:
1. Repair the existing sidewalks by filling in cracks, trimming overgrown bushes, and regularly maintaining these areas to prevent fallen branches.
2. Construct dedicated bike lanes on main streets to ensure safety for cyclists.
3. Engage with the local community to raise awareness about the benefits of biking and walking, promoting a healthier lifestyle and reducing vehicular traffic.

By signing this petition, you are supporting a safer, more accessible, and more environmentally friendly Groveland. Let's work together to make our town a better place for all residents, whether they're on foot or on wheels. Please sign and voice your support for a safer Groveland.
