Ban Hezbollah in the UK in its entirety

Hezbollah is a Lebanese-based terrorist organisation banned throughout the world, including by the Arab League, United States, France and Israel, but not in the UK. This must change! Britain has only banned its "military" arm but not its "political" wing meaning there is a legal loophole that is currently allowing support for the organisation to grow. However Hezbollah, by its own admission, does not differentiate between its political and military wings. The flag, which features an assault rifle, is used for both. There is no difference! Hezbollah should be banned in the UK entirely. Hezbollah calls for Islamist revolution around the world, has carried out terror attacks for over 30 years, and calls for the “liberation of Jerusalem” and for the destruction of Israel. Backed by Iran, it has tens of thousands of rockets that can reach every city in Israel. Hezbollah is an anti-Israel, anti-West organisation that should NOT be allowed in Britain, yet on Sunday 18 June its supporters marched through central London flying Hezbollah flags. Organisers used the legal loophole to encourage protesters to carry the flag at the Al Quds march, which is an annual day created to call for the destruction of Israel.  Enough is enough. If Britain is to genuinely say "no to terror" then all terrorist organisations must be banned without compromise. Following the Arab League and United States in proscribing Hezbollah is one simple step that the UK Government can take in ensuring that extremism will not be tolerated in this country. Therefore, we call upon the UK Government to ban Hezbollah in the UK in its entirety.

Petition to University of Cape Town, UCT Council, UCT Senate

Protect Academic Freedom at the University of Cape Town

We, the undersigned, including students, parents, alumni of the University of Cape Town, are aware of the ongoing campaign calling for an academic boycott of Israeli institutions at UCT. With this in mind, we call upon UCT’s management and leadership to stand against this campaign. We believe that the implementation of a wholesale academic boycott against Israel violates the principles of academic freedom and freedom of speech, guaranteed in Section 16 of the South African Constitution and which are fundamental to the undertaking of education and research. Research, teaching, and scholarship flourish through robust exchange of ideas, across borders and among institutions in different parts of the world, including the Middle East. The true essence of a university is to foster dialogue and develop solutions to problems without regard to political, racial, and cultural differences. UCT has always shown these qualities, leading us to celebrate our association with UCT. Additionally, we are concerned that despite there being a difference between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism, there is a dangerous convergence. Conclusive evidence shows that anti-Semitism is on the rise globally, and it is a new type of Jew-hatred that masks itself as opposition to Israel’s state policies and Zionism. Student groups are well-known for their efforts to isolate the Jewish state’s universities, students and academics. And all too often student groups like the Palestine Solidarity Forum (PSF), at UCT, do not make the profound distinction between anti-Semitism, anti-Zionism, and criticism of the policies of a particular Israeli government. It is these blurred lines and misunderstandings that create a negative impact on campus for Jewish students, making them one of the most targeted minority groups at university. As administrators, any decision to boycott Israeli universities fans the flames of anti-Jewish hostility on campus and it should recognise that the primary source of the harassment, intimidation, suppression of speech and ethnic discrimination of Jewish students originate from the pejorative activities of these student groups who do not make this differentiation.   For years, UCT has enjoyed the reputation of being an inclusive environment for students from all cultural and racial backgrounds, and while there is no greater benefit to one’s intellectual and social development than ideological diversity, it is crucial for the concept of tolerance that we speak out against what we disagree, with limits. The concept of tolerance implies that we refrain from using violence, intimidation, threats and bans to silence our opponents. We appeal to the university to draw on its rich history, as an institution that creates a community of intellectual individuals, where students were regarded as individuals in their own right, rather than a particular cultural or religious group. Any decision to boycott Israeli universities contributes to the popularity of radicalising identity politics and threatens to fracture campus life where we will find students inhabiting separate spaces and leading parallel lives. This is not the university we experienced, nor the one we envisage for the future.

Petition to Amber Rudd MP, UK Parliament, Theresa May MP

STOP Islamic extremist sheikh from entering UK and visiting Parliament

The former Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, a terrorist-supporting, Holocaust-denying anti-Semite who has called for the destruction of Britain will meet MPs in the UK Parliament this September. We call upon the UK Government to ban Sheikh Ekrima Sabri from entering the UK and not be allowed to attend Parliament as planned. According to an email seen by CUFI that was sent to MPs, pro-Palestinian group, EuroPal, will be leading a delegation from Jerusalem between 11-15 September and includes Sheikh Ekrima Sabri (also known as Ikrima al-Sabri), who was Grand Mufti from 1994 to 2006. The purpose of the visit is to discuss the “recent escalation in Jerusalem”. Appointed by Yasser Arafat, Sabri was removed by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas over his increasing extreme views. He was also banned from entering France in 2012. Here is an example of some of his hate speech: In 2001, Sabri stated in a sermon on PA Radio,  "Allah, destroy the U.S., its helpers and its agents. Allah, destroy Britain, its helpers and its agents. Allah, prepare those who will unite the Muslims and march in the steps of Saladin. Allah, we ask you for forgiveness before death, and mercy and forgiveness after death. Allah, grant victory to Islam and the Muslims…"  Sheikh Sabri has also praised martyrdom in his sermons. In a sermon on Palestinian television in 2001 he said, "The Muslim loves death and [strives for] martyrdom. He does not fear the oppression of the arrogant or the weapons of the blood-letters. The blessed and sacred soil of Palestine has vomited all the invaders and all the colonialists throughout history and it will soon vomit, with Allah's help, the [present] occupiers." In support of child martyrs, he said, " There is no doubt that a child [martyr] suggests that the new generation will carry on the mission with determination. The younger the martyr - the greater and the more I respect him… They [mothers of martyrs] willingly sacrifice their offspring for the sake of freedom." On Jews he has said, "I enter the mosque of Al-Aqsa with my head up and at the same time I am filled with rage toward the Jews. I have never greeted a Jew when I came near one. I never will. They cannot even dream that I will. The Jews do not dare to bother me, because they are the most cowardly creatures Allah has ever created…" In a 2000 interview with the Italian newspaper la Repubblica, Sabri responded to a question about the Holocaust by stating, “Six million Jews dead? No way, they were much fewer. Let’s stop with this fairytale exploited by Israel to capture international solidarity. It is not my fault if Hitler hated Jews, indeed they were hated a little everywhere. Instead, it is necessary to denounce the unjust occupation endured by my people.” And in a New York Times magazine interview with Jeffrey Goldberg, he said “If the Jews want peace, they will stay away from Al Aksa...This is a decree from God. The Haram al-Sharif belongs to the Muslim. But we know the Jew is planning on destroying the Haram. The Jew will get the Christian to do his work for him. This is the way of the Jews. This is the way Satan manifests himself. The majority of the Jews want to destroy the mosque. They are preparing this as we speak.”The email from EuroPal to MPs suggests that the delegation wants to “promote dialogue and a better understanding of the Palestinian narrative” with the aim to "achieve justice and true peace in the Middle East.” CUFI is partnering with Israel Britain Alliance in contacting every MP questioning the appropriateness of allowing the former Mufti into the Palace of Westminster. All MPs have also been sent a Timeline of Temple Mount Tensions, provided by CUFI. If the UK Government wants to take a proactive approach to countering terrorism and incitement to hate, then it must BAN Sheikh Ekrima Sabri from entering the UK and NOT allow him to attend Parliament as planned. Please add YOUR name to this petition and share with others to show your support to BAN Sheikh Sabri from the UK. #bansabri
