Stand with Mohamad Al-Mail: Reject the Misuse of the Terrorism Act

The Issue

We, the undersigned, call for an immediate end to the misuse of counter-terrorism powers against individuals and groups advocating for Palestinian rights in the UK. The recent actions taken by the police under the Terrorism Act 2000 against pro-Palestine activists are not only unjust but also a blatant abuse of power that threatens our fundamental rights to free speech and peaceful assembly.

On September 21, 2024, Mohamad Al-Mail was arrested during a pro-Palestine demonstration, facing serious allegations under the Terrorism Act 2000. His home was raided, and personal devices were seized, all in an attempt to silence dissent and intimidate those who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The individuals targeted by these actions are not terrorists; they are compassionate members of our society who engage in voluntary work and strive to help vulnerable communities. They are deeply affected by the suffering of innocent people in Gaza, particularly children, and are exercising their right to voice their opposition to what they perceive as genocide.

We demand:

  1. An immediate halt to the use of counter-terrorism powers against pro-Palestine activists.
  2. A thorough investigation into the police actions taken against individuals participating in peaceful demonstrations.
