Because what that MA did and how the police and mayor handled this situation was beyond wrong and horrific As a mother to an autistic 4 year old, I can't express how disgusted and appalled I am by how this was handled she should have been put in handcuffs and should have went to jail just like any other caregiver would have for physical violence, it is not okay to rip a baby out of their mother's arms ever. That's their safe place, mind-blowing mind-blowing that it's it's looked at as okay it's not okay. The abuse against autistic children needs to stop here. this baby needs Justice this mother needs Justice and she needs all of our voices to advocate for them to make sure they get the justice they deserve.
As an autistic young adult, I know from personal experience it is hard enough to live in a systemically ableist society. The abuse and neglect described here is utterly inhuman. Ty is my cousin, one of the most kind-hearted people I know, and he is worthy of your respect and care. He is a human being, not a statistic.
This was preventable.
It doesn't take blind trust of either side to do a thorough investigation. No matter what you believe, inhibiting and postponing is not protecting against defamation or playing the victim, it is enabling it. The complete lack of response by the people whose job it is to keep our students safe speaks volumes.
It is not too late to do the right thing. People have already been hurt; that is undeniable and cannot be reversed. But that does NOT mean willfully ignoring the now limited but still very much nonzero action that CAN still be taken to conduct that investigation, take action to prevent further abuse, hold the known abuser(s) accountable, and ensure adequate medical treatment for the victim(s) to the fullest extent possible.
To those who make the decision: whatever you decide, treat this like the future of someone you love depends on it. Because that's exactly what it is to his family. And someday it could be you.
We have lived in collierville for twenty-five years and raised our three children here. One of the reasons we settled here is because this is such a beautiful town with loads of charm. Another reason is that it is safe. Our children were able to safely walk to the town square on their own when they were in elementary school. They played on our front yard. They rode their bikes. If we were raising children here now, none of those things would be possible. Unfortunately the leadership of this town has allowed too many apartments to be built and too many commercial spaces to be built, while others sit empty. Traffic is ridiculous. Reckless drivers cruise up and down Peterson Lake, Powell, and White Roads at 40 and 50 miles an hour without consequence. Drivers do not stop at crosswalks. The last thing we need is more until we have the infrastructure to support it and enough police officers to strictly enforce traffic laws. We should retain the unique and welcoming qualities of Collierville and stop with the obsessive, out of control building. Please do not allow this gas station to come to fruition.
