Don’t force people back to workin just to live in poverty.

Don’t force people back to workin just to live in poverty.

The Issue

So the governor of Arkansas has unilaterally declared that minimum wage workers are all safe and should go back to their low paying jobs and not worry about getting sick or about the millions of federal dollars that he has decided that they do not need. Gov. Hutchinson decided to opt out of federal supplemental unemployment assistance for the state after June 26, which has caused concerns for many Arkansans.

So we force people back into poverty so that there's a larger labor pool to exploit.

I’m all for people going back to work, but everyone deserves to be paid a living wage. If you can’t get people to come to work because they can get more on unemployment, the problem isn’t unemployment, the problem is stagnant low wages.

Don’t take from poor people to give to the rich. The people who are getting this money are the lowest paid workers and the gig workers. What a terrible move. You've got free federal dollars coming into this state boosting the economy. And your reaction is to cut that off for people who own fast food franchises and the like? I can't believe how economically short-sided these folks can be sometimes.

Funny because it's considered a good thing to take money from the government when it comes to subsidies and big business breaks....weird.

This move by the governor of Arkansas doesn’t have any effect on me. I never got laid off because I’m a nurse. I’ve been working more and more. But I care about my fellow Arkansans, and my fellow Americans.  Let’s support the workers here. Essential or not essential, nobody should be forced to work for peanuts. Happier employees are more productive employees.  Now is the time. Love each other.

Major employers in Arkansas can help with this problem. Pay your employees a living wage.
