Urge Congress to Establish Laws Against Sexual Offenders Using Virtual Reality

The Issue

I find myself wracked with worry about the safety of our future generations in the evolving virtual landscape. Fearful of potential hazards and loopholes that sexual offenders might exploit in the virtual universe, I believe it's time for regulatory measures that protects us all, especially our youngest. This drive for change is not only for my precious grandchildren and great grandchildren, but for every child in America.

Our legal system has restrictions for sexual offenders in the physical realm, but what about the virtual realm - the future of human interaction? According to the National Institute of Justice, over 800,000 convicted sex offenders are currently living in the United States (U.S. Department of Justice, 2021). Without proper legislation, the probability of sexual predators exploiting this emerging technology is significantly high.

In recognition of the urgency and importance of this issue, I am proposing a new law, to be aptly named "Milagros's Law." This means 'miracles' in Spanish-speaking countries, serving as a beacon of hope for international standards too.

Let's make it a priority to extend current legal protections to the virtual world, preventing registered sexual offenders from creating virtual identities and partaking in interactive experiences that could put others, specifically children, at risk.

NOT TOMORROW OR THE DAY AFTER, BUT RIGHT NOW, BEFORE A LOOPHOLE BECOMES A TRAGEDY.

I implore you to sign and share this petition, pushing our legislators into action. Let's make Milagros's Law a reality, delivering a miracle for the safety of our children and future generations.
