The Issue

Former Prime Minister Pascal Affi N'guessan, the opposition leader candidate of the Ivory-Coast was arrested and taken to an unknown location for denouncing the illegitimate candidacy of the sitting president for a third term.

The country has suffered many lost in human lives since Alassane Ouattara made the announcement for seeking a third term.  This situation has raised fear and instability in many cities of the country. The opposition leader house in his native city, Bongouanou, was burned down by the government militia. Daoukro, the native city of the former President Henry Konan Bedie has suffered the same fate. Houses and civilian properties have been trashed and burned to the ground. The social situation has worsen in the past days with manhunt between Alassane Ouattara supporters and other communities members.

After boycotting the October 31st election, the opposition announced they were creating a transitional council that would be presided by the former President Henry Konan Bedie.

Ivorian prosecutors are pursuing “terrorism” charges against the opposition members who boycotted the October 31 election, in which Ouattara won a third term.

After his arrest, the family of Pascal Affi N'guessan has not been able to see or talk to him. As a president  of a regional council  and a member of the Ivory Coast parliament, the opposition leader has parliamentary immunity.  However, he is kept captive somewhere where is human right are clearly violated.

We urge the proper international authorities to please open a civil rights investigation of the political violence that is occurring in the Ivory-Coast.

Pascal Affi N'guessan is not only a politician, but he is a husband, a father, and a grand - father.  He is also the voice of the oppressed citizens of the Ivory-Coast.

Pascal Affi N'guessan needs to be FREE.
