Tony Abbott (Prime Minister) or Bill Shorten (Opposition Leader): Please tell Australians what you think the population of Australia should be in 2060

Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten, my name is Ruby Cogan. I am 10 years old. When you were my age the population of Australia was 11 million people. Now, less than 50 years later, Australia’s population has more than doubled. That’s a lot more people in the same space.
You might be wondering why as a 10 year old I'm petitioning you. I just made a documentary for my year 5 assignment on one of Australia's leading business people Dick Smith and learnt about something much more important. Population.
I watched "Dick Smith's Population Puzzle" multiple times and in that video Julian Cribb, a Freelance Scientific Journalist, said:
"People are not thinking about what is going to happen in the middle of the century when there is going to be a collossal confrontational clash between human needs and the ability of the planet to supply those needs."
I’m worried that if Australia’s population doubles every 50 years before too long there won’t be enough food to eat or water to drink and Australia will not be the great place it is now. Some important people like Dick Smith have said that Australia should have a smaller population. Other people like Kevin Rudd said Australia should have a bigger population. You once said Australia should have a big population but another time you said it shouldn’t. Mr Shorten just said he belives in a big Australia, but he wouldn't say how big. We want to know what you think Australia’s population should be.
It seems to be something politicians often avoid talking about. I now know that talking about population raises difficult issues like how many people Australia should welcome from other countries, how many babies our families should have and how much of our country we should dedicate to growing wheat, raising cattle or mining for coal or gas.
Mr Abbott, in 2060 I will be about the age you are now. I hope to have children just like you do, a great job, and a nice house to raise a family. I’m worried that if Australia’s population is more than 40 million, kids in that generation won’t be able to buy a house and Australia’s cities will be too overcrowded.
