The resignation of our local MP Damien Moore... and apology would simply not be enough.

The resignation of our local MP Damien Moore... and apology would simply not be enough.

The Issue

Today our local MP Mr Damien Moore responded to email and private message requests for a response and support for the Black Lives Matter Movement in trying to make a change in the fight for Equality for ALL people. The Black Lives Matter Movement fully agrees that All Lives Matter and that is not in dispute. The cause has been supported by people of a range of different ages and all colours of skin.

Mr Moores response today was quite aggressive in damning the local protest in Southport and displayed extremely clear DOUBLE-STANDARDS. He referred to ALL people that sent him emails/messages about it as ‘Ultra-Left Wing Individuals’ and stated that it was not ok that the Southport BLM protest took place as it will contribute to a 2nd spike in COVID-19 and he gave his FULL support instead to the large group gathered around the Monument in Southport who were clearly not adhering to Social Distancing guidelines and some were even sat clearly drinking alcohol in plain sight of the Police completely unpunished.

He stated VERY clearly that he will fully blame any rise in ‘The R’ of COVID-19 in the North West solely on the BLM protest.

Firstly, branding ALL that emailed/messaged him as ‘Ultra-Left Wing’ is nothing short of a disgrace and an insult to many (myself being one of the many) as when it comes to deciding who to vote for many of us are ACTUALLY educated enough to make our decisions based on the voting campaigns of each party and the policies they propose at the time we go to vote.....people do not have to be tied to one party each time they vote and to suggest that people are or think that way 24/7 and cannot make educated decisions about who to vote for to better there’s and the next generations futures is disgusting and insulting to put it mildly.

Mr Moore is the person who is supposed to be helping to build the bridges in society and especially his local constituency regardless of whether the people voted for him or not. We should be able to email/send him subjective messages without the fear of being ‘branded’ as Ultra-Left Wing and being blamed for a ‘possible’ 2nd spike in COVID-19 transmission or even deaths that, for one, has not happened yet and the droves of people attending the local beaches, parks and tourist attractions over the last 5 weeks are not to blame for any possible spike that may or may not happen.... Mr Moore failed to touch on the fact that the BLM protest in Southport DID observe social distancing rules and arial photographs of that fact are clearly available to support that claim. Mr Moore also failed to mention that the majority of the protest were wearing masks or alternatives if masks were not available. Mr Moore failed to mention that the stewards were providing hand sanitiser and spare masks where possible. Mr Moore failed to mention that the protest was 100% peaceful from the BLM point of view but that there was a disturbance of the peace from a Right-Wing Man who took it upon himself to walk through the peaceful BLM crowd and stand hands aloft chanting All Lives Matter (which nobody in the BLM would dispute) but this mans intentions was clearly to incite aggression at a peaceful protest as he proceeded to aggressively approach a black teenager who was wearing a face covering that appeared to possibly be a balaclava (which may have been his substitute for a mask but this man was stood rooted to the spot with his sign just like the rest of us and was certainly not being aggressive as videos prove), the white 'confirmed UKIP supporter' was waving his finger in the teenagers face until another white BLM protester came to the teenagers defence and pushed the man out of his face as the Police who were nearby did nothing (at that point) it was not until the BLM protesters managed to get the man to the back of the protest that the Police stepped in to remove the man from the area. Nothing was done by Police in legal terms to the man who was clearly there to disrupt a peacefully organised and observed protest. Mr Moore did not address any of these points and instead launched a clear attack on the BLM protest which was incorrect, uncalled for and without substance. Mr Moore has also failed to address claims that BLM protesters were racially abused after the peaceful protest when walking past the Monument on their way home as the large crowd was gathered at the Monument still, even though there was no threat to the Monument in our town as it is fully respected for what it represents. The reports to the Police of racial abuse by people around the Monument fell on deaf ears with the response on the day being “we are just here to keep the peace”.

Mr Moore has succeeded in one thing....

He has driven a clear wedge through his own constituency that he is supposed to be representing and in doing so has ensured that the people who he has disgracefully labelled ‘Ultra-Left Wing...’ for daring to send him messages with concerns or to look for support, now know that they most definitely DO NOT have any kind of political voice to turn to on issues for as long as he stands as the MP for Southport.

This petition is here for the sole reason to request that Mr Damien Moore Resigns from his position as MP for Southport or is removed from this position by the Government as it is clear that he is not willing to represent or even take on opinions other than his own and that many people in the constituency have nobody to turn to to be out political voice for change.

An apology is SIMPLY NOT GOING TO BE ENOUGH as it would fall on deaf ears as he has made his thoughts crystal clear.... he has fulled tensions to another level in his own constituency and this is unacceptable after the protest passed peacefully.
