President Trump wants to take $3 billion in federal research funding away from Harvard University and hand it over to trade schools. Not because Harvard misused the money, but because of political disagreements and culture war tactics.

We support trade schools. They deserve more funding. But not by defunding scientific research that helps fight diseases like tuberculosis and multiple sclerosis.

This isn’t about helping working people, it’s about punishing a university for disagreeing with the administration. It sets a dangerous precedent where funding is used as a weapon against academic freedom and public health progress.

Trade schools and research universities serve different, important roles in our society. We can support both — we should support both.

Tell the administration: Don’t play politics with education. Restore the funding to Harvard. Let the scientists do their jobs.
