We, the undersigned residents, community members, artists, cultural workers, visitors, and supporters of Chicano Park respectfully urge the Port of San Diego Commissioners to approve the names CHICANO PARK BOULEVARD and CHICANO PARK ON THE BAY for the street and park currently under consideration.

Chicano Park was established in 1970 through the collective action, sacrifice, and organizing efforts of the Barrio Logan community. The struggle for access to the waterfront and the vision of extending Chicano Park to the bay has been part of the community’s demands for generations.

For decades, community members, elders, artists, and organizers have advocated for a connection between Chicano Park and the waterfront. The names CHICANO PARK BOULEVARD and CHICANO PARK ON THE BAY honor that history, recognize the cultural significance of the area, and preserve the legacy of those who fought to protect and expand community access to the bay.

These names reflect:

The historic and cultural significance of Chicano Park.
The vision established by community organizers beginning in 1970.
The connection between Barrio Logan, the park, and San Diego Bay.
The importance of preserving community identity and history for future generations.
As supporters, we respectfully ask the Port of San Diego Commissioners to honor the wishes of the community by selecting:
