Support Bill 7405 “Hannah Cvancara Service Act” to allow amputees into military service

The Issue

Hannah Cvancara RN appeals to the Department of Defense with Bill H.R 7405 to change the military’s medical acceptance policy that currently lists amputations as a disqualifying condition for military service. The Bill proposes that civilians who suffered amputations prior to service should not be disqualified as long as they can pass all standard military fitness tests without accommodation.

The military adheres to strict and long-standing medical standards that do not allow amputees to serve is they lost their limb prior to service, regardless of their physical capabilities. This policy (DODI 6130.03) states that one cannot have "Prosthetic replacement of any joints, if there is resultant loss of function or persistent pain...Foot and ankle conditions that include amputation of any part of the foot or toes."

In addition to support received from medical providers, elected officials, and military service-members, Hannah passed the fitness scores required for active duty, doubling the score in some criteria. She works full time as an ER nurse and seeks fair consideration based on her performance and capability.

If passed, the Hannah Cvancara Service Act opens the opportunity for other disabled individuals wanting to serve, thereby advancing Force readiness and capabilities in multiple skillsets. Please sign to support Hannah as she pursues a life of service and commitment to others.
