Support a safe and responsible deer farming pilot program in Tennessee
The Issue
This issue is deeply personal to me because I want to see Tennessee’s rural communities thrive while protecting our natural resources. I believe that a limited, well-regulated pilot program for deer farming can provide valuable data, support local farmers, and demonstrate that Tennessee can innovate responsibly in agriculture.
Deer farming presents a unique opportunity for economic development in our state, particularly in rural areas that are most in need of innovative agricultural solutions. By supporting a deer farming pilot program, Tennessee could potentially see a positive impact on local economies, provide employment opportunities, and keep our agricultural sector dynamic and progressive.
Notably, according to research by the University of Tennessee's Institute of Agriculture, deer farming could generate substantial revenue for local farmers while maintaining a sustainable model that does not harm our natural ecosystems. Similar programs in other states have already proven to be successful, providing a sustainable source of venison and serving as tourist attractions.
We understand that some may have concerns about disease transmission and environmental impact. However, with strict regulation and adherence to guidelines set by agricultural and wildlife experts, these risks can be mitigated effectively. The pilot program would allow us to collect important data to ensure that deer farming can coexist with our wildlife and does not negatively impact our natural landscapes.
By signing this petition, you support a proactive and balanced approach to innacting a deer farming pilot program that considers both economic benefits and environmental responsibilities. Join us in pushing for innovative solutions that can help our communities thrive while preserving Tennessee’s natural beauty.
