Over the past days, scores of law enforcement officers dressed in riot gear and supported by military style vehicles forcibly removed hundreds of peaceful protesters who had gathered to oppose the Dakota Access Pipeline operating on illegal permits. There are disturbing reports of officers using sound cannons, pepper spray, rubber bullets, concussion grenades and water cannons at freezing temperatures endangering peoples lives. The authorities have already arrested at least 500 people. That is why I urge you to protect our First Amendment Rights to peacefully protest! Stop the Violence! Keep the Peace! Allowing DAPL to operate on these illegal permits threatens our National security and the National Security of the standing rock Sioux Tribe. Protect life! Protect water! Protect our National Security! Revoke all permits that put drinking water or cultural heritage sights at risk immediately! Stop the Dakota Access Pipeline now!
