Heidi Heitkamp is an American lawyer, businesswoman, and politician who served as a U.S. Senator from North Dakota from 2013 to 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, Heitkamp is known for her moderate political views and her focus on issues such as rural development and farm policy. Prior to her tenure in the Senate, she served as North Dakota's Attorney General from 1993 to 2001 where she was recognized for her successful advocacy against a tobacco company.
